Software Asset Management Specialist - Governance

ROLE:

Zurich Insurance group is looking for Senior SAM Governance Specialist responsible for defining, evolving and embedding the Software Asset Management Governance framework across the organisation. Key objective is to ensure that software assets are properly managed, balancing financial value, contractual and compliance risk, operational efficiency and business needs.

The role acts as a senior subject matter expert and trusted advisor to IT, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, Architecture and Business Units, influencing decisions across functions without relying on direct hierarchical authority.

The role combines strong SAM expertise with strategic thinking, data-driven decision making, stakeholder influence and transformation capabilities

This is a challenging senior role, requiring a broad understanding of IT technology, service management processes and the ability to collaborate with many different stakeholder groups within Zurich Group.

Group Technology and Operations Software Asset Management comprises of an international team of SAM experts in four countries,



who manage a multi-million-dollar software portfolio and SAM technology stack to support IT stakeholders in achieving their objectives. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who would like to work at a groupwide global level in defining and implementing SAM Framework, including standards, policies, KPIs, and OKCs.

EXPECTATIONS FROM THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Define and continuously evolve the SAM Governance framework, including policies, standards, processes, ownership and accountability, and controls.
- Establish governance mechanisms that enable effective management of software cost, risk, compliance and value.
- Provide strategic SAM advice for software investments, renewals, contracts, technology decisions and major vendor relationships.
- Own the SAM governance data framework, ensuring data quality, consistency, transparency and fitness for decision – making across software assets, entitlements, consumption and financial information.
- Define and monitor SAM KPIs, dashboards and management information, translating complex data into actionable insights, risks, opportunities and recommendations for stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement of SAM data sources, processes and automation to increase reliability and reduce manual effort.
- Challenge software consumption, purchasing and renewal decisions to maximize value and minimize unnecessary spending.
- Partner with Procurement, Legal, Finance, IT, Security, Architecture and Business Units to ensure SAM considerations are embedded into relevant decision processes.
- Lead improvements in SAM processes, data quality, automation and reporting, leveraging technology and AI, where appropriate.
- Define and monitor governance KPIs, demonstrating measurable business impact.
- Complete SAM activities, and support daily activities in the function, when required.
- Define and lead the SAM communication strategy,



ensuring the key messages, risks, opportunities, policies and decisions are clearly communicated to stakeholders at the appropriate level.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

- 8+ years of relevant proven experience with:
- Direct responsibility on developing or implementing governance framework, policies, processes and controls
- Managing SAM data, data quality, reporting, and creating dashboards in large complex IT organisations,
- Working with stakeholders across different functions (IT, Procurement, Security, Architecture, Legal, Business Units), and seniority levels
- Strong understanding of license restrictions, benefits, optimization opportunities
- Direct responsibility and hands-on management of software portfolio in enterprise environment (irrespective of industry),
- Solid knowledge in licensing terms, and hands on experience in effective license position calculation for, at least, one T1 or T2 vendor (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Broadcom, Cloud Software Group, SAP, Adobe, etc.) in complex IT environment including on prem, public cloud and end-user devices,
- Experience in delivering measurable cost optimization, risk reduction, compliance improvement for software,
- Proficient use of SAM tools (ideally FlexeraOne),
- Advanced hands-on MS Excel skills (V/H-Look Ups, Pivots, Complex calculations, …)
- Proven track record in adopting and embedding AI solutions in SAM
- Profit and Loss (P&L;) calculations and accruals for cost impact.
- Fluent spoken and written English (strong B2+).
