Senior Analyst - Business Metrics & Data Governance

About the role

We run a high-velocity pre-onboarding funnel for lead generation, lead qualification, and handoff to sales across a CRM and a set of stakeholder tools. The numbers those systems produce do not always agree. Marketing and sales count a "qualified lead" differently. A stage definition changes and nobody is quite sure when, or why, or what it did to last quarter's trend. Analysts spend their week reconciling reports instead of producing insight.

You will be the person who fixes that. You will own the definitions of our business metrics, the standards for how they are captured in the CRM and every other tool, and the process by which any of it is allowed to change. You will work directly with demand generation, counselling, sales, and field operations teams, and your work will be backed by a leadership mandate that certified definitions are the company standard.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You will not manage a team. You will own a domain, and it is the kind of domain where one person who is precise, organised, and trusted by the business can change how the whole company operates.

Who this role is built for The strongest candidates are likely to come from one of these paths:

- A business or data analyst embedded in a sales, pre-sales, or marketing team, who has spent years working with CRM data and knows where the numbers break.
- A CRM administrator or CRM business analyst who has configured objects, fields, stages, and validation rules, and wants to move from system ownership into data and metric ownership.
- A sales operations, pre-sales operations, or revenue operations analyst who has already been the informal owner of funnel definitions and reporting logic.

What matters more than your title so far is that you have lived inside a sales funnel, you are comfortable in a CRM at the configuration level, and you want to grow into a data governance specialist.

What you will own

Metric definitions and Reporting standards

- Build and maintain the certified metric catalogue: definitions, inclusion/exclusion rules, calculation logic, source fields, owners, and version history
- Write definitions precise enough that two people implementing them independently get the same number
- Set naming, formatting, date grain, timezone, percentage bases,

and mandatory dimensions across all reporting
- Define the standard funnel view and cohorting rules
- Work with analytics to encode certified definitions once in BigQuery and dbt
- Resolve conflicts between teams: reconcile into one metric, or formally split into two clearly named ones

Process and data mapping

- Map the pre-onboarding funnel: which system records each step, which field carries it, who enters it, when
- Spend time with business heads, operations teams, CRM teams, tele-calling and field teams to see how the process actually runs
- Own the CRM data standard: mandatory fields, stage entry/exit criteria, picklist meanings, validation rules
- Define what must be captured in every other stakeholder tool
- Review new fields, tools, and tracking before they go live; you specify and test, CRM admin and engineering build
- Flag where process and instrumentation have diverged

Change management

- Run a single front door for new metrics, definition changes, and discrepancy reports
- Own the change process: proposal, impact analysis, consultation, approval, versioned implementation, restatement decision, change announcement
- Coordinate the monthly Metrics Council: prepare the agenda, present cases, maintain the decision log
- Publish and meet turnaround SLAs

Data quality

- Define quality rules for critical data elements completeness, validity, timeliness, duplicates, cross-system reconciliation
- Publish a recurring quality scorecard by team and source, with named owners for fixes
- Trace discrepancies back to the process or instrumentation that caused them

Enablement

- Keep the metric catalogue published and self-serve
- Onboard new business managers on definitions and the request process
- Send a short monthly note on what changed and why

What this role is not So the scope is clear from day one:

- Not data pipeline or warehouse engineering; that stays with the data engineering and analytics team.

- Not the general reporting request desk. You govern definitions; analysts build reports.
- Not dashboard production at volume.
- Not machine learning, forecasting or data science work.
- Not CRM user administration, provisioning or access management.
- Not accountable for the business performance of any metric.

What we are looking for

Essential

- 4–6 years of experience in a sales, pre-sales, revenue operations, marketing operations, or business analytics workplace; you have worked alongside a commercial team, not only inside a data team.
- Hands-on experience using or configuring a CRM (Salesforce, LeadSquared, Zoho, HubSpot, Freshsales, or equivalent). You understand objects, fields, stages, picklists, and validation rules, and you know why a field exists rather than only how to filter on it.
- Working knowledge of how a lead-to-revenue funnel operates, lead sources, qualification criteria, stage progression, and handoff, and conversion from having worked in or with one.
- Basic SQL: you can independently pull, join, and aggregate data to check whether a definition holds, without waiting for someone else to run the query.
- Strong written precision. You can turn a vague business phrase into an unambiguous specification with edge cases spelled out, and you maintain what you write.
- Comfort working directly with business stakeholders — asking uncomfortable questions, chasing an answer, and holding a position politely when someone wants a definition bent for convenience.
- Genuine interest in moving into a data governance and metric ownership specialism. This is the core of the role, not a side effect of it.

Preferred, not required

- Exposure to a modern data stack: BigQuery or another cloud warehouse, dbt, or a semantic layer such as Hex or Looker.
- Experience in a high-velocity consumer business: EdTech, insurtech, lending, D2C, healthtech, or inside sales-led B2B SaaS.
- Experience documenting business processes, writing SOPs, or running a structured intake or change-request process.
- Familiarity with BI tools: Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau, or Metabase.
- Exposure to web or product analytics instrumentation (GA4, GTM, event taxonomies).
- Any prior exposure to data governance concepts: business glossaries, data catalogues, data quality frameworks.
