The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad invites applications for Predoctoral Research Assistant positions under the supervision of Prof. Jasdeep Mandia (Economics).

Work description: predoctoral research assistants will work with various Principal Investigators (PIs)

collaborating on a project on all aspects of empirical research, from assembling and cleaning large datasets to regression analysis and estimating choice models. The work is data-intensive and combines hands-on data work with economic modelling. It feeds into academic papers, policy reports, and grant writing.

Who should be interested: This work, along with the broader interaction with PIs, can lead to high-quality research outputs. The position suits candidates who enjoy data-intensive work combined with economic modelling, and who want robust research experience before applying to top PhD programs in economics or related disciplines.

Qualifications: Candidates should have at least a bachelor's degree in Economics or a related discipline with high quantitative and/or mathematical content; a master's degree will be preferred. Candidates should have some experience conducting economic analysis, such as estimating regression models with observational data, and be comfortable programming in Stata, R, or Python.





Experience with discrete choice models or other structural methods would be appreciated. An interest in energy, environmental, or urban economics is expected.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct empirical research using econometric and computational techniques, drawing on large-

scale administrative, household, and survey data.
- Contribute to academic publications and policy reports arising from the research projects.
- Present research findings in seminars and workshops.

Tenure: The initial appointment is for eleven months, subject to satisfactory progress, with the possibility of extension based on performance and future opportunities. Selection process: Shortlisted applicants will be tested on the abilities needed for the work described above. Candidates in the final stage will be interviewed.

Compensation: As per IIMA norms. Location: IIM Ahmedabad campus (in-person).
