Rejection Analysis & Rework Engineer PCBA- Electronics Manufacturing
Who We Are
Tor.ai is an Industrial IoT product company that builds connected devices and solutions for industrial applications. Our teams work across hardware, firmware, software, product management, manufacturing, implementation and support to solve real industrial problems.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Rejection Analysis & Rework Engineer to investigate rejected printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), identify failure causes and perform component-level rework for Tor.ais electronic products.
The role combines fault diagnosis, precision soldering and functional verification, with a focus on improving rework yield and preventing recurring manufacturing defects.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze PCBA rejections and defects from assembly, testing and final inspection; perform failure analysis to identify root causes.
- Troubleshoot PCBAs using schematics, BOMs, Gerber files, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, datasheets and test procedures.
- Perform component replacement, soldering and desoldering for SMT and through-hole assemblies.
- Correct solder bridges, opens/shorts, dry or insufficient solder, incorrect polarity/orientation, and wrong or missing components; rework connectors and wires.
- Use multimeters, DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, LCR meters, microscopes and soldering/rework stations for diagnosis and repair.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Testing, NPI and Design/R&D; to resolve defects and escalate design or process issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), 5 Why and Fishbone analysis for recurring PCBA failures.
- Maintain traceable rejection, rework and failure-analysis records covering unit identification, defect, action taken and verification result.
- Monitor rework yield, rejection rate, First Pass Yield (FPY)
and recurring defects; share preventive feedback with Production and suppliers.
- Ensure reworked PCBAs undergo functional testing and verification against defined acceptance criteria before release to the next process.
- Support CAPA, 8D investigations, customer complaint resolution and internal/external audits.
- Follow approved rework procedures, ESD precautions, quality requirements and safe handling practices.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of electronic circuits, component identification, SMT and through-hole technology (THT), soldering and PCB troubleshooting.
- Hands-on ability to diagnose PCBA failures and carry out component-level soldering, desoldering and rework.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, BOMs, PCB layouts, assembly drawings and component datasheets.
- Hands-on experience with multimeters, DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, LCR meters, microscopes and soldering/rework stations.
- Experience with defect analysis, RCA, 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA).
- Ability to follow test procedures, verify reworked assemblies and maintain accurate failure-analysis and rework records.
- Good analytical skills, attention to detail and coordination with manufacturing, quality and engineering teams.
Preferred Profile
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical or Electronics & Telecommunication (E&TC;) is required.
- 23 years of relevant experience in PCBA manufacturing, electronics testing, rejection analysis and rework.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria and IPC-7711 rework guidelines is preferred.
- Candidates should be comfortable with hands-on troubleshooting and rework in an electronics production/manufacturing workplace.
