ABOUT QUIPU
Quipu is AI infrastructure for long-term memory. We give every entity in a complex system a single, audit-grade memory so engineering teams can study cause and effect instead of guessing at it.
Our platform powers real enterprise work:
- Vehicles with component-level traceability and failure prediction
- Drug development with fewer risky experiments
- Battery storage systems with trusted cell-ageing models
- AI agents with a shared persona that never resets
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
⚠️ PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
This is an on-site role at T-Hub, Hyderabad, on a 6-day working week for the first 9 months. We're building core infrastructure on a hard timeline and would rather be upfront about the commitment than surprise you later. After 9 months, the schedule moves to a standard 5-day week.
Applications with less than 3 years of professional Java experience will not be considered.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE ROLE
We're looking for a Java backend engineer who thinks in systems, not just code. You'll own architecture decisions on the core services behind a distributed graph memory platform: graph storage, streaming ingestion, ETL pipelines and semantic retrieval at scale. We expect you to reason about trade-offs and failure modes before you write a line of code.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build and evolve Spring Boot microservices at the core of the platform
- Own architecture decisions: service boundaries, data flow, failure handling and how the platform scales
- Design security and access control: authentication, authorization, multi-tenant data isolation and secrets management
- Build event-driven, Kafka-based pipelines with backpressure-aware stream processing and actor-model concurrency
- Build and operate ETL and ingestion workflows across heterogeneous data sources
- Model and query data across graph (Neo4j), distributed SQL (YugabyteDB), vector stores and embedded key-value stores
- Own features end-to-end: design, build, test, deploy and debug in production using logs, metrics and traces
- Take part in design reviews and explain your decisions with explicit reasoning
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
MUST-HAVE
✅ 3–7 years of production experience with Java and Spring Boot
✅ Strong core Java: collections, concurrency, JVM fundamentals
✅ Experience designing service boundaries and owning systems beyond single features
✅ Security in Java apps: OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, role- and attribute-based access control, secure API design
✅ Production experience with Kafka or a similar event-streaming platform
✅ Experience building or operating ETL / data pipelines
✅ Distributed systems fundamentals:
consistency, partitioning, idempotency, retries, backpressure, failure handling
✅ Strong SQL plus experience with at least one NoSQL or graph database
✅ Available on-site in Hyderabad, 6 days a week for the first 9 months
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
STRONG PLUS
⭐ Keycloak, HashiCorp Vault or production IAM integration
⭐ Akka / Apache Pekko (actors, streams, cluster)
⭐ Neo4j, Cypher or graph data modeling
⭐ Distributed SQL (YugabyteDB, CockroachDB, Spanner-class systems)
⭐ Vector databases and semantic search (Milvus, pgvector, etc.)
⭐ Python (FastAPI) for service sidecars
⭐ LLM-integrated systems: prompt pipelines, extraction workflows, RAG
⭐ Jenkins, Docker, containerized deployments on Linux
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHO YOU ARE
- You ask "Why is the system shaped this way?" before "What do I build?"
- You're comfortable with ambiguity and small-team ownership, without rigid specs or hand-holding
- You debug from first principles and write down what you learn
- You communicate trade-offs clearly and disagree constructively
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT WE OFFER
? Direct ownership of core infrastructure: your work ships and matters immediately
? Deep, unusual problems: bitemporal modeling, graph traversal at scale, streaming knowledge extraction
? Close mentorship from technical leadership on architecture and systems design
? A small, high-ownership team building infrastructure for enterprise clients
