Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Software Development Engineer in Test who is technically strong in Selenium with Java, REST Assured, and Postman,

and very strong across UI testing, API testing, and database testing. These skills are the foundation of this role and you will use them every day to build automation frameworks, validate services and data end to end, and keep our regression suites stable and trustworthy. Depth in these areas is essential. This is not a role where they can be picked up on the job.

You are a strong software engineer first and a tester second. You will design and own Selenium WebDriver frameworks in Java, automate REST and

SOAP APIs with REST Assured and Postman, and validate data directly in relational databases using SQL. You will work closely with developers,

business analysts, product owners, and client teams, so clear communication and genuine collaboration matter as much as technical depth.

You will own work across the full quality lifecycle: test strategy, framework design, functional and regression automation, API and database testing,

CI/CD integration, test data management, defect triage, and production quality monitoring. This is a coding role, not a manual testing or test management-only role.

Key Responsibilities

UI Testing

Design, build, and maintain scalable UI automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver with Java, applying the Page Object Model, TestNG or

JUnit, data-driven design, and reusable utilities.

Build and maintain Playwright test suites for web, cross-browser, and end-to-end regression coverage, using fixtures, auto-waiting, and parallel execution, and support teams whose products are automated in Playwright.

Write stable UI tests in both Selenium and Playwright with resilient locator strategies, proper waits and synchronization, parallel execution on

Selenium Grid and Playwright workers, and clear failure evidence such as screenshots, logs, and traces.

API Testing

Build and maintain API automation for REST services using REST Assured with Java, covering positive, negative, and boundary scenarios,

authentication and authorization, request chaining, and JSON schema validation.

Use Postman for exploratory API testing, collection design, environment and variable management, and automated collection runs with Newman in

CI, and test SOAP services where required.

Validate status codes, headers, payloads, and error handling, and confirm that API responses match the data stored in the database.

Database Testing

Write and run SQL to validate data integrity, constraints, referential integrity, stored procedures, triggers, and views across relational databases such as Oracle,

SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Validate data migrations, ETL jobs, and batch processes by reconciling source and target data, and build automated backend data checks into the regression suites.

Create and manage test data through SQL scripts and APIs, including setup, teardown, and masking of sensitive data.

Engineering and Quality Ownership

Integrate UI, API, and database test suites into CI/CD pipelines with parallel execution and consolidated reporting.

Define the test strategy for new features, covering risk analysis, coverage targets, test data strategy, and entry and exit criteria.

Perform code reviews for both application code and test code, and advocate for testability in design and architecture discussions.

Investigate failures, trace each defect to the layer where it originates (UI, API, or database), and drive it to closure with clear, reproducible reporting and evidence.

Track and publish quality metrics such as automation coverage, flakiness, escaped defects, and mean time to detection, and act on the trends.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and client stakeholders in Agile ceremonies to clarify requirements, raise risks early, and agree on acceptance criteria.

Communicate test progress, quality risks, and release readiness clearly to both technical and business audiences.

Share automation practices and coding standards with the wider QA team and mentor less experienced engineers.

Required Qualifications

These are essential. Candidates must be strong in all of the following to succeed in this role.

5+ years of professional experience in software testing, with at least 2 years in a hands-on SDET or test automation engineering role.

Very strong Java programming skills, including object-oriented design, collections, and exception handling, with a track record of writing clean,

maintainable, production-quality test code.

Very strong hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and Java, including building frameworks from scratch with the Page Object Model,

TestNG or JUnit, and Maven or Gradle, and handling waits, iframes, multiple windows, and agile elements.

Very strong hands-on experience with REST Assured,

including request and response specifications, authentication (OAuth, JWT, API keys),

serialization and deserialization of payloads, and JSON schema validation.

Very strong hands-on experience with Postman, including collections, environments and variables, pre-request and test scripts, and running collections with Newman.

Deep understanding of API testing concepts: HTTP methods, status codes, headers, REST principles, contract validation, and testing of SOAP services.

Very strong SQL and database testing skills, including joins, subqueries, aggregations, and window functions, and validating data integrity, stored procedures, and data migrations across Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Proven ability to validate end-to-end business flows across the UI, API, and database layers.Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.

Proficiency with Git, branching strategies, and code review practices, plus strong software engineering fundamentals.

Strong collaboration skills, with experience working closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and client teams in an Agile environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain quality risk clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Experience with Playwright for UI or API automation, and comfort supporting teams that use it.

Exposure to Mabl or other low-code UI automation tools.

Experience testing Pega applications (Pega Platform 8.x or Pega Infinity), including automating agile Pega UI.

Performance testing experience with JMeter, NeoLoad, or LoadRunner.

BDD framework experience with Cucumber.

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

Test management and reporting tooling: Jira, Zephyr, Xray, Allure, or ReportPortal.

Contract testing with Pact, accessibility testing (WCAG 2.1 AA), and security testing fundamentals with OWASP awareness.

Background in a regulated domain such as banking, financial services, insurance, or healthcare.

Familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools, such as AI-driven test case generation or self-healing locators.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are a hands-on automation engineer who writes clean Java code, thinks in terms of risk rather than test counts, and is equally comfortable debugging a flaky Selenium locator, a failing REST Assured test, and a data mismatch in a SQL query. You troubleshoot independently, communicate

- clearly, and build strong working relationships with developers, architects, product owners, and client teams.
