iPSC & Cellular Biology Researcher
Location: New Delhi, India
Type: Full time
About NITS EngineeringNITS Engineering is a biomedical technology company building the next generation of biomedical devices, in vitro disease models, and engineering systems for drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and diagnostics. We combine precision hardware engineering with biomedical research to build the tools that take science from the lab bench to real world application.
About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced iPSC & Cellular Biology Researcher to lead the biological development of human iPSC-derived cardiac cells for our engineered cardiac tissue programme.
You will be responsible for establishing and optimizing the biological workflow from blood-derived PBMC isolation through iPSC generation, expansion, differentiation, characterization, and quality control. The role will combine stem-cell biology, molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and cellular characterization.
You will develop robust and reproducible biological protocols and SOPs that can support the generation of standardized iPSC-derived cells for 3D cardiac tissue engineering and downstream applications in disease modelling, drug discovery, toxicity assessment, and human-relevant preclinical research.
This work will be carried out in collaboration with CMC Vellore, IIT Delhi, and CenFab, at VIT, Vellore.
What You Will DoBlood Processing and Reprogramming
- Establish workflows for donor blood processing and PBMC isolation, in line with ethics approvals, informed consent, and biosafety requirements.
- Develop and optimize protocols for reprogramming PBMC derived cells into iPSCs, including clone selection and vector clearance.
iPSC Culture, Banking, and QC
- Establish, expand, and cryopreserve human iPSC lines, and build master and working cell banks.
- Characterize identity, pluripotency, differentiation potential, and genomic stability using immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, karyotyping,
and molecular assays.
- Perform mycoplasma testing, viability assays, and routine QC, and define acceptance criteria for iPSC lines and differentiated cells.
Cardiac Differentiation and Maturation
- Develop reproducible protocols for differentiation, purification, maturation, and cryopreservation of iPSC derived cardiomyocytes and other cardiac cell types.
- Characterize cardiomyocyte phenotype and maturation using RT-qPCR, immunostaining, Western blotting, calcium imaging, and contractility analysis.
Integration with 3D Tissue Engineering
- Work with the cardiac tissue engineering and bioprinting researcher to define cell requirements for 3D constructs.
- Troubleshoot culture, contamination, viability, and phenotype issues across the pipeline.
Documentation and Translation
- Write, validate, and maintain SOPs, batch records, passage histories, and QC documentation with the regulatory and quality team.
- Analyze data with appropriate statistics, and contribute to publications, grant proposals, intellectual property, and reports.
What We Are Looking For
- PhD in stem cell biology, cell biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, molecular biology, or a related discipline, with 3 to 5 years of postdoctoral or industry experience. Candidates with a Master’s degree and substantial hands-on iPSC experience will also be considered.
- Research experience outside India (for example the US, UK, Europe, Singapore, South Korea, China, Japan, New Zealand or Australia).
- Hands-on experience generating iPSCs from PBMCs or other somatic cells.
- Hands-on experience differentiating iPSCs into cardiomyocytes, with demonstrated differentiation efficiency.
- Strong understanding of iPSC QC, including pluripotency, genomic stability, and cell banking.
- Proficiency in RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and protein characterization.
- Experience working with human donor samples under ethics and biosafety regulations.
- Ability to independently design experiments, troubleshoot protocols, and analyze data.
- Peer reviewed publication record and strong scientific writing.
Nice to Have
- Cardiomyocyte maturation strategies and functional assays (calcium imaging, contractility, electrophysiology).
- Cardiac organoids, engineered cardiac tissues, or bioprinted tissues.
- Quantitative image analysis.
- Experience in GLP or GMP environments and standardized cell production for scale up.
Why Join
- Work on a programme developing human iPSC-derived cardiac tissue models for disease modelling, drug discovery, and human-relevant preclinical research.
- Own the biological pipeline from blood-derived cells through iPSC generation and cardiac differentiation.
- Build robust cellular and molecular workflows designed for reproducibility and future translation.
- Work closely with researchers in cardiac tissue engineering, biomaterials, 3D bioprinting, and regulatory science.
- Access to multidisciplinary biomedical research and engineering infrastructure.
- Freedom to optimize protocols, investigate biological problems, and develop recent approaches.
- Opportunity to build biological platforms that move beyond conventional 2D cell culture toward functional engineered human tissues.
If you enjoy working with stem cells, solving difficult biological problems, and building reproducible cellular systems rather than simply following established protocols, this is an opportunity to own a critical part of the programme.
