Role purpose: Design the controller-to-cloud IoT backbone of a mission-critical building management system. You will connect HVAC, energy, lighting and security equipment reliably and securely to the cloud.
Key responsibilities
- Architect device, edge and gateway integration using BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA and vendor protocols.
- Design device provisioning, telemetry ingestion, command and control, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and offline and buffering behaviour.
- Build on Azure IoT Hub, IoT Edge, Event Hubs or equivalent, with event-driven microservices and time-series storage.
- Define device security: certificates, secure boot, key rotation and network segmentation.
- Guide Forward Deployed Engineers and IoT testers.
Review designs and code for reliability.
Must have
- 12+ years, with 5+ years architecting industrial or building IoT solutions end to end.
- Hands-on protocol knowledge (BACnet and/or Modbus a must; MQTT essential).
- Experience with mission-critical, always-on systems: redundancy, failover, monitoring and alarms.
- Cloud IoT platform experience (Azure preferred) and microservices.
Positive to have
- BMS/BAS products (for example from building automation or HVAC equipment makers).
- Edge computing with containers on gateways, and embedded or firmware exposure.
- Azure IoT Developer certification.
