Job Role: HVAC Design Team Leader

Location - Hyderabad



1. Core Responsibilities

System Design

- Design central air-conditioning systems: chilled water plants, VRF/VRV systems, DX systems, package units, AHUs, FCUs, ventilation fans.
- Heat load estimation using software or manual methods (CLTD/RTS).
- Design ducting systems, chilled water piping, refrigerant piping, and ventilation networks.
- Select equipment based on capacity: chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, heat recovery units, exhaust/pressurization fans.
- Design fresh air, treated fresh air (TFA), and air distribution strategies.
- Plan pressurization systems for staircases, lift lobbies, and basements.
- Ensure indoor air quality (IAQ) norms and filtration requirements.

2. Technical Calculations

Engineering Calculations

- Heat load calculations based on building envelope, occupancy, equipment load.
- ESP (External Static Pressure) calculations for duct design.
- Chilled water pump head calculations (pipe friction + equipment losses).
- Cooling coil and heater sizing.
- Ventilation air quantity calculations per NBC/ASHRAE.
- Duct and pipe sizing calculations.
- Energy efficiency calculations including COP/EER analysis.

3. Documentation & Drawings

Design Packages

- HVAC Design Basis Report (DBR).
- Heat load reports and psychrometric charts.
- HVAC layouts — ducting, piping, equipment room, ventilation shafts.
- Duct routing, piping risers, schematic diagrams.
- BOQs and technical specifications.
- Tender drawings and bid documentation.
- Review of shop drawings, coordination drawings, and equipment submittals.

4. Coordination & Execution Support

Project Involvement

- Coordinate with architecture, electrical, plumbing, fire, and structural teams.
- Participate in MEP integration and clash resolution (Revit/BIM).




- Conduct site inspections for ducting, piping, insulation, and equipment installation.

5. Skills Required

Technical Tools

- AutoCAD, Revit/BIM
- HAP, Trace 700, or equivalent for heat load
- Duct and pipe sizing tools
- Psychrometric analysis tools

Technical Knowledge

- Strong grasp of refrigeration cycles, psychrometry, IAQ.
- Knowledge of HVAC equipment selection and performance.
- Familiarity with BMS controls and VFD concepts.
- Understanding of acoustics, vibration isolation, and green HVAC strategies.
- Basics of fire-rated ducting and ventilation requirements.

Soft Skills

- Clear technical communication.
- Robust analytical and troubleshooting mindset.
- Coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Documentation and detailing accuracy.

6. Compliance & Standards Knowledge

- ASHRAE standards (55, 62.1, 90.1)
- NBC norms (Part 8)
- IS standards (IS 8148, IS 1391, IS 655, etc. depending on equipment)
- Green building guidelines (LEED/IGBC/GRIHA)
