Position overview The Environmental Specialist - DMR supports US client projects involving Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits, and stormwater compliance. The role reviews monitoring data, prepares accurate regulatory deliverables, tracks reporting deadlines, and coordinates with clients and colleagues in India and the US to ensure timely, high-quality service.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare and quality-check DMRs for assigned facilities against permit-specific requirements, including outfalls, parameters, monitoring frequencies, reporting periods, and due dates.
- Review laboratory results, sampling records, discharge/no-discharge information, and supporting documentation; verify data completeness, units, detection limits, and reporting values.
- Maintain permit, outfall, and reporting trackers; follow up on missing samples, laboratory reports, client inputs, and pending certifications ahead of deadlines.
- Enter and review DMR information in applicable reporting platforms (such as EPA NetDMR or relevant state systems); coordinate authorized signature/certification and retain submission confirmations.
- Compare monitoring results with applicable permit limits and benchmarks; distinguish benchmark exceedances from effluent-limit violations and promptly escalate issues requiring further action or notification.
- Coordinate with clients, laboratories, and internal teams to resolve data discrepancies and prepare clear compliance summaries, follow-ups, and supporting regulatory correspondence.
- Maintain complete, auditable client files including permits, analytical reports, DMRs, no-discharge documentation, exceedance follow-ups, and submission records.

- Keep current with relevant US NPDES and state stormwater reporting requirements; seek technical guidance and share knowledge with colleagues when needed.
- Deliver multiple assignments on schedule and within agreed time budgets; flag roadblocks early and recommend improvements to reporting workflows and quality control.

Educational qualifications and work experience

- A Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related chemistry specialization from a recognized institution is required.
- Hands-on exposure to environmental or analytical laboratory work and on-site water, wastewater, or stormwater sampling, including sample collection, preservation, chain-of-custody procedures, and interpretation of laboratory test results, is preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in environmental consulting, water compliance, or regulatory reporting; experience with US NPDES/DMR work is preferred.

- Ability to interpret permits and analytical laboratory reports; proficiency in Excel, with familiarity with NetDMR, EPA ECHO, or state reporting systems considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple technical deliverables and regulatory deadlines.

Soft skills

- Client-first mindset with strong ownership of accuracy, compliance, and delivery timelines.
- Solid written and spoken English, including clear technical communication with US stakeholders.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and sound judgment in identifying and escalating discrepancies.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and collaborate effectively across India and US teams.
- Self-motivated, organized, and eager to build knowledge of environmental regulations and reporting systems.
