Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Orthopedic Surgery Medical Coder to join our medical billing team on a part-time, remote basis. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience reviewing orthopedic surgical operative reports and assigning accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and applicable modifiers in accordance with medical documentation and payer guidelines.

This position is ideal for a medical coder who has robust orthopedic surgery coding knowledge and can work independently for approximately four hours per day.

Key Responsibilities

Review orthopedic surgery operative reports, surgical notes, and related medical records.

Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10-CM codes based on documented procedures and diagnoses.

Identify applicable modifiers, including laterality and assistant-at-surgery modifiers, according to documentation and payer requirements.

Review place of service (POS), surgical facility details, and emergency versus elective procedures.

Evaluate assistant-surgeon billing requirements and payer-specific guidelines.

Identify separately reportable procedures, bundled services, and applicable NCCI edits.

Review documented radiology services and durable medical equipment (DME) and identify applicable codes when supported by the records.

Identify documentation gaps and potential coding issues before claims are submitted.





Maintain coding accuracy and follow current coding guidelines and payer policies.

Communicate coding questions and recommendations to the billing team.

Required Qualifications

2–5 years of experience in medical coding, with a strong focus on orthopedic surgery.

Hands-on experience reviewing orthopedic operative reports.

Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, medical terminology, and surgical coding.

Knowledge of surgical modifiers, NCCI edits, and assistant-at-surgery billing guidelines.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Good written communication skills.

Ability to work remotely for four hours per day and meet assigned deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

CPC, CCS, or another relevant medical coding certification.

Experience with U.S. healthcare billing and reimbursement guidelines.

Experience coding orthopedic procedures involving the shoulder, knee, hip, hand, wrist, elbow, and other musculoskeletal areas.

Familiarity with Medicare and commercial payer coding policies.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time remote position requiring approximately four hours of work per day. The working schedule will be discussed during the interview, with preference given to candidates who can accommodate the team's required working hours.

Compensation

Compensation will be negotiated based on the candidate's orthopedic surgery coding experience, coding accuracy, and qualifications.

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹43,000.00 per month
