Role Description
T1Tech is seeking an experienced Core Automotive Embedded Software Developer to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining safety-critical embedded software for automotive Vehicle Control Units (VCUs). You will play a key role in modernizing an existing MATLAB/Simulink-generated codebase into a maintainable, hardware-independent C/C++ software platform capable of supporting multiple vehicle configurations.
The position requires strong technical expertise in embedded software development, automotive communication protocols, software architecture, diagnostics, and firmware management.
You will collaborate closely with system architects, hardware engineers, and software development teams to deliver reliable, scalable automotive control solutions aligned with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Embedded Software Development & VCU Firmware
- Port, refactor, and optimize existing MATLAB/Simulink autogenerated VCU code into structured, maintainable C/C++.
- Develop and maintain safety-critical vehicle control software in accordance with AUTOSAR principles and relevant automotive standards.
- Implement and optimize embedded software components, including low-level drivers, middleware, and application layers as required.
2. Software Architecture & System Design
- Design and implement a modular,
hardware-agnostic software architecture supporting multiple vehicle platforms.
- Enable vehicle-specific behavior through configurable parameters, including powertrain settings, actuator timing, and safety limits.
- Define software interfaces and maintain technical architecture documentation.
3. Automotive Diagnostics & Calibration
- Implement calibration and measurement functionality using XCP.
- Develop service diagnostics using UDS and OBD-II protocols, including Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) management.
- Support automotive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system validation.
4. Simulation, Testing & Debugging
- Develop and maintain an x86-based simulation and mock environment for virtual testing and rapid prototyping.
- Implement automated unit testing to validate software functionality without requiring physical hardware.
- Debug complex embedded software issues, optimize performance, and improve system reliability.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and validation activities.
5. Firmware Management & Updates
- Design and implement secure firmware flashing infrastructure using XCP with credential enforcement.
- Support Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) update capabilities and optional A/B partitioning.
- Ensure firmware update mechanisms are reliable, secure, and maintainable.
6. Vehicle Communication & System Integration
- Define and maintain CAN-based communication interfaces between the VCU firmware and GSM/telematics modules.
- Establish and maintain telemetry data contracts and communication protocols.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate embedded software with vehicle hardware and connected systems.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++ development, preferably within automotive or safety-critical real-time systems.
- Hands-on experience developing embedded software for ECUs, VCUs, or similar control systems.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and autogenerated embedded software.
- Solid understanding of modular software architecture, hardware abstraction, and interface design.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols, particularly CAN.
- Experience with embedded debugging tools, diagnostic equipment, and software validation.
- Familiarity with RTOS or bare-metal development environments.
- Proficiency in version control, CI/CD practices, unit testing, and structured software development methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AUTOSAR architecture and ISO 26262 functional safety principles.
- Hands-on knowledge of XCP calibration, UDS diagnostics, OBD-II, and DTC management.
- Experience with automotive communication protocols such as LIN and FlexRay.
- Familiarity with firmware bootloaders, secure flashing, and FOTA implementations.
- Experience building x86 simulation environments or hardware-independent test frameworks.
- Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity and secure embedded system design.
- Experience with powertrain control systems and vehicle platform configurations.
