Role Overview The Binding Supervisor oversees the daily post-press and bindery operations in our educational publishing production facility. This role ensures that school textbooks, workbooks, teacher guides, and supplementary learning materials are bound, trimmed, inspected, and packaged to meet strict quality, safety, and delivery schedules. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in standard textbook binding methods (such as perfect binding, saddle stitching, and section sewing), mechanical troubleshooting, and managing bindery staff during peak printing cycles.

Key Responsibilities1. Daily Production & Operations Management

- Workflow Oversight: Direct and monitor daily binding operations, including folding, gathering, section sewing, perfect binding, saddle stitching, three-knife trimming, and shrink-wrapping.
- Schedule Execution: Ensure print jobs meet strict educational season deadlines and press schedules.
- Machine Setups & Calibration: Oversee equipment setup and changeovers (e.g., Kolbus, Muller Martini, Stahl folders, Horizon binder lines) to minimize downtime and prevent material wastage.
- Material Management: Track and maintain inventory for binding supplies, including hot-melt/PUR glues, stitching wire, thread, binding tape, and packaging supplies.

1. Quality Control & Product Durability

- Durability Testing: Perform regular checks for page pull strength, spine flexibility,



glue application, and cover alignment to ensure books withstand heavy student usage throughout the academic year.
- Pagination & Gathering Verification: Conduct checks to eliminate missing signatures, upside-down pages, or incorrect signature sequences before binding.
- Final Inspection: Inspect finished books for clean trimming, proper cover squareness, and defect-free foil stamping or lamination.

1. Team Leadership & Staff Supervision

- Shift Management: Lead, supervise, and assign tasks to machine operators, bindery assistants, and seasonal labor.
- Training & Onboarding: Train operators on equipment safety, quality standards, machine maintenance, and proper material handling.
- Performance Monitoring: Maintain production logs, output records, and staff efficiency metrics.
