About the role

You will build and maintain the site on WordPress and be accountable for its speed, uptime, security and SEO readiness. You will turn content and marketing needs into reliable features, manage hosting and releases, and keep the site compliant with Indian data-protection rules (DPDP Act, 2023).

Key responsibilities

WordPress development

- Build and maintain custom themes, child themes and Gutenberg blocks in PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Develop custom plugins, custom post types, taxonomies and Advanced Custom Fields setups for articles, news, guides and landing pages.
- Integrate third-party tools: CRM and lead forms, analytics, newsletter, payment and API-based services.
- Write clean, documented, version-controlled code using Git.

Website technical management

- Own hosting, server, DNS, SSL, CDN and email-deliverability settings, and liaise with the hosting provider.
- Manage WordPress core, theme and plugin updates through a staging-to-production release process.
- Monitor uptime, errors and logs; run backups and a tested disaster-recovery plan.
- Maintain technical documentation, access control and an inventory of plugins and licences.

Performance and technical SEO

- Keep Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) in the "Good" range on mobile and desktop.
- Implement caching, image optimisation, lazy loading and database clean-up.
- Manage XML sitemaps, robots.txt, canonicals, redirects, schema markup, hreflang and site architecture with the SEO team.
- Fix crawl, indexing and coverage issues reported in Google Search Console.

Security and compliance

- Harden the site: firewall, malware scanning, 2FA, least-privilege roles and secure login.
- Patch vulnerabilities promptly and lead incident response.
- Implement cookie consent,



privacy notices and data-handling controls in line with the DPDP Act, 2023.

Analytics and tracking

- Set up and maintain GA4, Google Tag Manager, Search Console and conversion tracking.
- Ensure forms, events and funnels are tracked accurately and report technical KPIs monthly.

Collaboration and leadership

- Translate requirements from content, SEO, design and marketing into scoped tasks and timelines.
- Review work from freelancers or agencies and enforce coding and accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) standards.
- Train editors on the CMS and recommend improvements to the site roadmap.

Required skills and qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of WordPress development, with a portfolio of custom themes and plugins.
- Strong PHP 8, MySQL, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SCSS and the WordPress REST API.
- Hands-on Gutenberg block development and ACF; working knowledge of React.
- Experience managing Linux hosting or managed WordPress hosting, cPanel or similar, DNS, SSL and CDNs such as Cloudflare.
- Proven record improving Core Web Vitals and fixing technical SEO issues.
- WordPress security best practices and incident handling.
- Git, staging workflows and deployment tools.
- GA4, Google Tag Manager and Google Search Console.
- Transparent written and spoken English; able to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical teams.

Preferred skills

- Experience with news, media or content-heavy portals with large article archives.
- Headless WordPress, Next.js or WPGraphQL.
- AWS, Google Cloud or containerised hosting; CI/CD pipelines.
- Multilingual sites (WPML or Polylang) and international SEO.
- CRM integrations such as Salesforce or Zoho.
- Familiarity with the DPDP Act, 2023 and GDPR requirements for websites.
