Role Title: Senior Software Engineer II – Database Engineering

Position Summary:

Marriott International is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Revenue Management and Pricing Technology team. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and deliver scalable, cloud-native applications that support critical business functions. You’ll work on our user interfaces using technologies like JavaScript, ReactJS and Redux, and play a key role in modernizing our platform architecture.

This position is ideal for an experienced engineer with 6–8 years of hands-on development experience and a track record of leading small teams or projects, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and driving technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain user interfaces using ReactJS, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
- Utilize designs from Figma and implement them in ReactJS, ensuring pixel-perfect accuracy.
- Implement and maintain state management solutions using Redux or similar libraries.
- Optimize components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers.
- Conduct design and code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers,



and backend engineers to deliver high-quality features.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team growth

Required Qualifications:

- 7+ years of software engineering experience with significant expertise in database engineering and large-scale distributed systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise database solutions using PostgreSQL and cloud-native database technologies.
- 3+ years of experience developing and operating applications on AWS Cloud.
- Strong experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing both relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Couchbase, DynamoDB, Document DB, Cassandra, or equivalent.
- Proven expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, workload analysis, and capacity planning.
- Experience designing highly scalable database architectures supporting high-volume transactional and analytical workloads.
- Robust understanding of database replication, high availability, disaster recovery, backup and recovery strategies.
- Experience developing database sharding, partitioning, and data archival strategies to support large-scale growth.
- Experience designing caching solutions using Redis, ElastiCache, or similar technologies to improve performance and reduce database load.
- Experience with distributed systems and managing challenges related to scalability, resiliency, consistency, and fault tolerance.
- Experience leveraging Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices using Git, Jenkins, Terraform, GitHub Actions, or similar technologies.
- Experience implementing observability solutions including database monitoring, alerting, logging, and performance analytics.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead complex technical investigations.
- Experience leading database modernization, migration, performance optimization,



and operational excellence initiatives.
- Expert-level hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, replication, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, or equivalent cloud-native database platforms.
- Experience performing database upgrades, migrations, and schema evolution with minimal business downtime.
- Experience optimizing large-scale databases containing TB-scale datasets and high transaction volumes.
- Experience establishing database observability using tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent.
- Experience conducting database capacity planning, cost optimization, and infrastructure right-sizing initiatives.
- Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on database architecture, scalability, and performance engineering topics.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with PostgreSQL-based systems operating at TB-scale datasets and high transaction volumes.
- Experience with database sharding, partitioning, archival, and data lifecycle management strategies.
- Experience driving database modernization and cloud transformation programs in enterprise environments.
- Background in travel, hospitality, or pricing systems.
- Experience contributing to architectural decisions or solution design.
- Agile/Scrum team experience.
