Summary The Manager, Engineering reports to the Director, Engineering and leads a team of software engineers who build and sustain the products Armor’s customers depend on. This role combines engineering leadership, technical oversight, and delivery ownership, with responsibility for ensuring the team builds secure, scalable, reliable, and high-quality software.
The Manager is expected to have a strong software engineering background and enough technical depth to effectively guide engineering decisions, challenge solutions, participate in architecture and design discussions, and ensure engineering standards are maintained. While this role does not require the Manager to serve as the team’s primary technical mentor or write production code on a daily basis, the Manager must be technically credible and capable of working closely with senior engineers on complex technical challenges.
Armor is looking for an engineering leader who understands modern software development, cloud technologies, AI-assisted engineering, architecture, and production operations and can translate business priorities into successful engineering execution.
This is a full-time, in-office role based in Pune, India; on-site presence five days a week is required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Additional duties may be assigned as required.
- Lead and manage a software engineering team with responsibility for team performance, engineering execution, and delivery.
- Own day-to-day engineering delivery for assigned product areas, ensuring priorities are understood, technical risks are identified early, and commitments are delivered with appropriate quality.
- Partner with senior engineers and technical leaders on architecture, system design, technical decisions, and engineering standards.
- Participate in technical design and architecture discussions, asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, and ensuring solutions meet requirements for security, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Ensure engineering teams follow strong software development practices, including code review, testing, source control, CI/CD, release management, documentation, and production readiness.
- Drive effective use of AI-assisted development tools across the engineering team and ensure appropriate standards are maintained for the quality, accuracy, security, and maintainability of AI-generated code.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies, developer tools, cloud capabilities,
and engineering practices and work with technical leaders to determine where they can improve engineering productivity and product capabilities.
- Own delivery of feature work, defects, technical improvements, and customer-impacting issues, balancing priorities based on business impact and engineering risk.
- Partner with Product and other stakeholders to translate business objectives and customer requirements into clear engineering priorities and executable work.
- Support release planning and readiness, including risk identification, dependencies, change management, rollback planning, and coordination with appropriate technical teams.
- Serve as an escalation point for production incidents and customer-impacting technical issues, ensuring the appropriate engineers are engaged, communication is clear, and corrective actions are completed.
- Ensure lessons from production incidents, defects, and customer escalations are incorporated into engineering practices and future development.
- Work with engineering teams to identify and reduce technical debt while balancing new development and business priorities.
- Lead hiring and team-building efforts, including technical interview participation, candidate evaluation, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Collaborate with global and regional engineering teams to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, consistent engineering practices, and effective execution across distributed teams.
- Support technology and vendor evaluations by assessing technical capabilities, platform usage, performance, cost, engineering impact, and alternatives.
- Maintain visibility into engineering delivery, technical risks, dependencies, capacity, and customer-impacting issues and provide clear updates to the Director, Engineering.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and managing software engineering teams, with responsibility for team performance and delivery.
- Strong software engineering background with experience building and delivering production applications using modern programming languages and frameworks such as React, TypeScript, C#, Node.js, Java, Python, or Go.
- Strong software architecture and system design knowledge, with the ability to participate in architecture discussions, evaluate technical approaches, identify risks, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and reliable.
- Production cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or another major cloud platform, with a solid understanding of cloud-native application architecture, deployment, scalability, reliability, and production operations.
- Experience with modern software engineering and DevOps practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, code review, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with virtualization, infrastructure, and data protection technologies such as VMware vSphere, Proxmox, NSX-T, FortiMonitor, Zerto, and Rubrik.
- Cybersecurity experience covering XDR, MDR, SIEM, SOC tooling, endpoint detection and response,
threat detection, incident response, or security monitoring.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or equivalent.
- Experience leading engineering teams that use AI-assisted development tools as part of their normal software development lifecycle.
- Understanding of AI/LLM technologies, foundation models, AI-enabled applications, and emerging AI development frameworks.
- Understanding of AI/LLM security risks, including prompt injection, data leakage, model limitations, and security considerations associated with AI-generated code and applications.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and technical output for accuracy, maintainability, performance, and security implications.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including SQL, NoSQL, data modeling, performance tuning, and scalable data architectures.
- Experience with AI-enabled data platforms, vector databases, RAG architectures, or other data technologies supporting AI applications.
- Experience managing feature delivery, defect prioritization, regression prevention, technical debt, and engineering quality.
- Experience supporting production incidents, customer escalations, root-cause analysis, and post-incident improvement.
- Experience with release management, production readiness, change management, and rollback planning.
- Experience working in SaaS, cloud-based, or other highly available production environments.
- Experience working closely with Product Management and translating business and customer requirements into engineering priorities.
- Experience participating in technical hiring, interviewing, candidate assessment, and engineering workforce planning.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones.
- Experience evaluating third-party technologies and vendors, including technical capabilities, cost, performance, and build-versus-buy considerations.
- Experience in a customer-facing environment and the ability to communicate technical issues and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent skilled experience.
