About Uma
Uma is building an AI-native platform designed to help founders and investors discover better-aligned opportunities through intelligent, two-sided matching.
Our mission is to help close the gender funding gap by making investor discovery more targeted, relevant, and accessible, particularly for women and underrepresented founders.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and resourceful Investor Research & Outreach Intern to help expand Uma’s investor network.
You will research investors, assess their alignment with Uma’s founder community, identify relevant decision-makers, and support personalized outreach and investor onboarding. Working directly with the founder, you will gain practical exposure to venture capital, investor relations, market research, and early-stage platform growth.
This role is focused on building Uma’s investor network and attracting relevant investors to the platform, rather than fundraising for Uma.
Key Responsibilities
1. Investor Research & Mapping
- Research venture capital firms, angel investors, syndicates, and other relevant investor networks.
- Evaluate investment focus, preferred stages, sectors, geographies, check sizes, portfolios, and investment theses.
- Identify relevant investors and decision-makers using credible public sources.
- Build and maintain an accurate, structured investor database.
2. Investor Outreach & Relationship Development
- Draft personalized outreach emails and LinkedIn messages tailored to each investor’s background and interests.
- Support outreach and follow-ups using founder-approved messaging.
- Help communicate Uma’s value proposition clearly and professionally.
- Support introductory conversations and investor onboarding where appropriate.
3. Pipeline Management & Reporting
- Maintain an organized tracker of prospects, contact details, outreach status, responses, and next steps.
- Verify information, prevent duplicate records, and keep the database current.
- Prepare concise weekly updates covering progress, responses, and relevant observations.
4. Market Intelligence & Feedback
- Research investor preferences, emerging investment themes, and relevant ecosystem developments.
- Identify common questions, concerns, and barriers to joining Uma.
- Share insights with the founder to help improve investor positioning, outreach, and onboarding.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong online research skills and the ability to distinguish credible information from unverified claims.
- Excellent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate professionally with senior stakeholders.
- A structured, detail-oriented approach to research and data management.
- Comfort using LinkedIn, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and other online research tools.
- Genuine interest in venture capital, startups, entrepreneurship, or the technology ecosystem.
- Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while incorporating feedback.
Previous experience in venture capital, investor relations, business development, or startups is beneficial but not essential.
What You’ll Gain
- Practical exposure to the venture capital and startup ecosystems.
- Experience in investor mapping, qualification, and skilled outreach.
- Insight into how an early-stage technology platform builds its investor network.
- Direct feedback and guidance from the founder.
- A portfolio of research and business development work completed during the internship.
Internship Details
- Duration: 16 weeks initially.
- Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week.
- Location: Remote.
- Compensation: Unpaid internship.
- Supervision: Direct guidance from Uma’s founder, with regular feedback.
This is a learning-oriented internship with a defined scope and time commitment. It does not guarantee future employment.
