ABOUT THE ROLE

TailVaR Consulting is hiring a Founding Engineer to help us develop cloud-based software for financial reporting, modelling, and management.

We are headquartered in Mumbai. This position is remote from anywhere in India.

You will work directly with the Founder and be responsible for all foundational software development and automation activities at TailVaR. The job responsibilities include:

- Architecture: Designing cloud-based software products based on requirements communicated by the TailVaR team. Identifying the right tools and platforms for the solutions, keeping in mind functionality, costs, and ease of integration.
- Development: Developing cloud-based or on-prem software products for TailVaR’s clients and for internal TailVaR use, or to automate TailVaR / client workflows.
- DevOps: Deploying and maintaining the developed software solutions
- Contributing to other technical initiatives where your expertise can materially help the firm.

You will work on software where correctness, auditability and numerical accuracy matter. Problems may involve automating financial models, building calculation engines, processing large structured or unstructured datasets, and turning specialist actuarial/accounting workflows into usable software. You will be expected to use AI-assisted development tools intelligently to improve development speed and quality.

Remuneration will be in the form of fixed pay, with variable pay based on the company’s profitability and your level of contribution.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- Approximately 3-6 years of full-stack cloud development experience
- Solid Python and software engineering fundamentals




- Past cloud development experience on a widely-used platform such as AWS or Azure
- Good communication skills
- Experience taking applications from design through production deployment
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity to make architecture decisions
- Able to understand unfamiliar business domains quickly
- High standards for testing, documentation, security and maintainability
- Comfortable working independently and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

You will be TailVaR's first dedicated engineer. You will have unusually high ownership over what we build and how we build it, work directly with domain specialists and the Founder, and help establish the engineering practices and technology stack that future engineers will inherit.

This is not a role where you will receive detailed technical specifications. We will explain the business problem and constraints; you will be expected to help determine the architecture, technology and implementation approach.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

TailVaR is a boutique consulting firm founded in June 2026. We presently offer specialized financial modelling and reporting services and insurance-sector expertise to Indian insurance and insuretech companies; we aim to expand into other sectors and geographies over the coming years.
