Design Engineer (Electrical) – Power

Design-Build Construction Projects — Power Systems, Switchgear, Generation, Substation & SCADA Design (Office-Based)

We are a consulting firm that provides project management, engineering and project-controls support services to US firms and international clients. We are establishing a recent office in India and are hiring our founding team. The office will support live international projects from day one — reviewing designs, controlling documents, planning and coordinating procurement. The company name, office location and compensation will be shared with shortlisted candidates during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce electrical power system and power distribution design that answers the project RFP and the approved basis of design.
- Develop and maintain the electrical basis of design, design criteria and technical specifications for power generation, distribution, lighting and low-current scopes.
- Design and specify LV/MV switchgear, motor control centres, protection schemes and relay coordination for distribution and substation applications.
- Design standby and prime power generation — diesel generator plants and power-plant auxiliaries — including sizing, paralleling, synchronising and changeover schemes.
- Engineer substation and grid-interconnection works: transformer sizing, switchyard layouts, earthing grids, and utility/power-grid interface requirements.
- Define SCADA, telemetry and power-monitoring architectures — RTUs, metering, communication interfaces and integration with building and plant control systems.
- Prepare connected and demand load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop and fault-current/short-circuit calculations,



arc-flash and earthing studies.
- Develop single-line diagrams, distribution schedules, panel schedules and cable schedules to issue standard; size UPS and battery systems.
- Perform design verification against the specifications, close out design-review comments, review supplier technical offers and electrical submittals, and coordinate with the civil and mechanical disciplines.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- B.E./B.Tech Electrical and M.Tech an advantage; 8–12 years of electrical power-system design experience with a reputed EPC/GC, PMC or design consultancy, including switchgear, generation and substation projects.
- Proven capability across load and fault-current calculations, protection and relay coordination, single-line diagram development and specification writing.
- Advanced software proficiency: ETAP (or SKM / DIgSILENT PowerFactory) for power-system studies, plus AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP and Dialux/Relux; strong Excel calculation discipline.
- Hands-on exposure to SCADA, telemetry and power-monitoring systems and their communication protocols (Modbus, IEC 61850 or similar).
- Sound knowledge of NEC/IEC, NFPA, IEEE and equivalent international design standards, including generator and substation practice.
- Excellent written English, accuracy and the ability to work to design-programme dates across time zones.
