Summary

Reporting to the Head of Product, the Director of Platform Engineering owns the reliability and operational health of the products that generate the vast majority of Armor’s revenue. That means Armor Enterprise Cloud (private cloud hosting, firewalls, WAF, OS templates, backups), Armor Agent (endpoint and EDR), and the infrastructure underpinning Armor MDR. When these systems go down, customers feel it immediately, and renewals are at risk.

This role is responsible for keeping them running, making them cheaper to operate, and reducing the amount of human effort required to do both. If you think of reliability engineering as a product discipline rather than an ops cost center, this is your job.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Additional duties may be assigned as required)

- Own uptime, SLA adherence, and incident response for Armor Enterprise Cloud, Armor Agent, and MDR infrastructure. When something breaks at 2am, your team is the one that gets paged.
- Lead the SRE and infrastructure engineering team. Set on-call rotations, define escalation paths, run blameless postmortems, and make sure the same incidents don’t keep happening.
- Define and maintain SLIs/SLOs across all production services. Use them to drive prioritization, not just dashboards.

- Reduce operational toil through automation. If a human is doing it repeatedly, it should be a script,

a pipeline, or an agent.
- Own infrastructure cost management. Know where the money goes, find the waste, and make the case for where to invest.
- Drive infrastructure migrations (Proxmox, Rackspace hardware refresh) without disrupting customers. You own the migration playbooks and the customer communication cadence alongside support.

- Maintain compliance and audit readiness for PCI, HIPAA, and SOC 2. This isn’t a side task; it’s a production requirement.
- Coordinate with the product engineering team on shared resources and handoffs. New features ship into your production environment, so you have a say in how they’re built.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and rollback mechanisms. One-click deploys, not prayer-based deployments.

- Make AI-assisted operations real: automated incident triage, AI-driven root cause analysis, predictive alerting. Measure whether it actually reduces mean time to resolution.
- Hire and develop infrastructure engineers who think in systems, automate by default, and treat reliability as a craft.

Required Skills

- You’ve kept production systems running at scale, and you know what it costs when they don’t. SRE, DevOps, infrastructure engineering -- the title matters less than the scars.
- Deep knowledge of private cloud infrastructure: VMware/Proxmox, firewalls, WAF, backup and DR platforms (Zerto, Rubrik, or equivalent). This is Armor’s bread and butter.
- Robust with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).

You don’t configure things by hand.

- Fluent in at least one scripting language (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and you use it daily to solve real problems, not just interview questions.

- Understands SLI/SLO frameworks and knows how to use them to make prioritization decisions, not just pretty graphs.
- Comfortable with monitoring and observability stacks (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalent). Can design alerting that catches real problems without drowning the team in noise.
- Knows networking at the system level: DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs. This isn’t optional in an infrastructure role.
- Familiar with compliance frameworks (PCI, HIPAA, SOC 2) and what it takes to pass an audit without a fire drill.
- Proficiency with git version control and CI/CD pipeline design.

GitOps is the expectation, not the aspiration.

- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or equivalent). Uses AI to write automation, analyze incidents, and reduce toil.
- Understanding of AI/LLM security risks, including prompt injection, data leakage, and model limitations.
- Can spot when AI-generated output is wrong, even when it looks right.
- Works best when things are on fire, and nobody is panicking. Calm under pressure, direct in communication, allergic to finger-pointing.
