Role Summary The Curriculum Designer is responsible for translating the programmes' academic vision into a coherent, engaging and academically rigorous learning journey across semesters and locations.
The role will design the detailed curriculum across the undergraduate learning journey, working with host faculty where needed, to integrate programme-led modules, experiential learning, projects, assessments and host-university teaching into one coherent programme.
All curriculum design will complement and reinforce the overall degree outcomes, ensuring that each module and learning experience contributes clearly to the knowledge, skills and capabilities students are expected to demonstrate upon graduation. The role will need strong expertise in backwards design, faculty collaboration, curriculum architecture, assessment design and experiential learning for undergraduate programmes.
This also requires a high level of comfort with AI-enabled curriculum design: using generative AI extensively, building and managing practical AI-supported tools and workflows, and applying strong academic judgement to critique and improve AI-generated outputs. The Curriculum Designer will help build scalable design infrastructure that enables learning delivery on ground while raising the overall consistency and quality of learning across the programme.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Architecture and Integration
- Translate programme and degree outcomes into clear semester, module and session-level learning outcomes in collaboration with the Academic Director/ faculty.
- Design and maintain the overall curriculum map across semesters and locations.
- Incorporate host-university modules into the broader degree curriculum so that they connect meaningfully with programme-led learning.
- Ensure every module, project and experience complements the degree outcomes and contributes to a coherent student learning journey.
- Use AI-enabled curriculum mapping and diagnostic tools to identify gaps, duplication, sequencing issues and inconsistencies across modules, semesters and locations.
- Develop and maintain tools that help monitor alignment between programme outcomes, module outcomes, assessments, learning activities and experiential components.
- Partner with the relevant teams to develop, test and continuously improve AI-enabled curriculum tools and workflows. This could include course-load balancing tools to identify periods of excessive assessment pressure, and faculty-facing tools that help convert existing syllabi into backwards-design-compliant modules aligned with programme learning outcomes, assessments and learning activities.
Learning and Instructional design
- Design modules, sessions, workshops and learning activities using backwards design principles.
- Develop faculty-ready teaching plans, session guides, learning activities and student instructions.
- Create active and applied learning experiences including case studies, simulations, debates, projects and problem-solving exercises.
- Ensure appropriate sequencing and scaffolding of knowledge and skills across the programme.
- Use AI-enabled tools extensively to accelerate curriculum design, review, iteration and quality assurance across the program, testing and refining AI-generated outputs to ensure academic quality, accuracy, coherence and sound pedagogical judgement.
- Develop and explore practical AI-supported tools, workflows and templates that help faculty convert existing syllabi and teaching materials into formats aligned with backwards design, program learning outcomes and agreed academic standards, and support them in using AI effectively while keeping clear human academic oversight and accountability.
Experiential Learning Design
- Integrate live company projects, city experiences, field visits, global immersions and practitioner engagement into the academic curriculum in collaboration with the Academic and Student Experience teams.
- Define clear learning objectives, student tasks,
preparation and reflection for experiential components using backwards design.
- Ensure experiential activities reinforce the degree outcomes rather than operating as standalone experiences.
Assessment Design
- Design formative and summative assessments aligned to module and degree-level learning outcomes.
- Develop assessment briefs, rubrics and student guidance in collaboration with the Academic Director and faculty.
- Design authentic assessments that test application, judgement, critical thinking and problem solving.
- Build and manage AI-enabled tools and checks to monitor assessment volume, timing, complexity and sequencing across the student journey, flagging periods of student overload and reviewing alignment, rubric quality and duplication across host-university and programme-led modules.
- Develop scalable tools that let faculty check whether assessments and module designs are consistent with backwards design principles and programme learning outcomes, and keep improving them based on faculty feedback, student workload data and evolving curriculum requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 6-9 years of experience in curriculum design, instructional design, learning design, higher education or a related field.
- Experience designing academic undergraduate programmes, courses or multi-module learning journeys.
- Strong experience in backwards design, constructive alignment, learning outcomes and assessment design.
- Demonstrated ability to use generative AI and other AI tools across curriculum design, assessment development, student workload planning and academic quality assurance, with the academic judgement to critique and refine AI-generated outputs.
- Experience designing or configuring AI-enabled workflows, prompts, templates or lightweight tools that turn curriculum-design principles into scalable resources for faculty and program teams, improving design quality, review processes and productivity.
- Experience integrating curriculum across multiple faculty, institutions or delivery environments. Exposure to experiential, project-based or practitioner-led learning for undergraduate programmes.
- Ability to translate complex academic content into structured and engaging learning experiences.
- Experience working collaboratively with university faculty and subject-matter experts.
- Strong written communication, attention to detail and project-management capability.
- Postgraduate degree in education, instructional design, curriculum studies, higher education or a relevant discipline preferred.
- Experience with international universities, transnational education or multi-location undergraduate programmes is desirable.
- Experience working in a startup, current undergraduate programme launches or zero-to-one setting is desirable.
