Process & Standard Work
- Process Design and Optimization: Fabrication engineer design and refine manufacturing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
- Quality Control: They develop and enforce quality assurance protocols to ensure products meet company and industry standards, regularly inspecting products and machinery to maintain high-quality output. Investigate production non-conformance (NCs) on the HVR line using basic RCA tools — 5-Why and Fishbone; document findings and proposed corrective actions for review with the quality and production teams.
- Equipment Management: Fabrication engineer oversee the selection, installation, and maintenance of machinery, troubleshoot technical issues, and schedule preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Production Planning: They create detailed production schedules, allocate resources, and coordinate with teams to ensure timely delivery of products while balancing workforce, materials, and equipment availability. Monitor rework frequency and scrap at Fabrication workstations; maintain a simple tracker and flag recurring issues to Fabrication Deputy Manager.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations is a key responsibility, including implementing safety protocols and monitoring compliance on the production floor.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Fabrication engineer work closely with CAD Engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to streamline operations and drive innovation.
- Operators Training and Supervision: Training welder and operators on new processes, technologies, and safety procedures is essential to maintain productivity and compliance. Assist in Preparing WPS and performing Welders WPQ.
- Lean & Waste Reduction: Identify and document waste at Fabrication workstations unnecessary motion, waiting time, rework,
and over processing using basic Lean tools; share findings with supervisor and Head of Production. Participate in Kaizen events and improvement workshops; implement assigned actions at the workstation level and verify results. Maintain 5S on the Fabrication shop floor; record scores, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions.
Authorities
- Train available resources for multi skilling within Fabrication section. Nominate monthly best performer from the team. Encourage team for betterment.
- Prepare WPQ document and update on regular basis.
- Identify training needs for the operators and maintain WPR.
- Escalate issues affecting Productivity due to material or engineering.
- Raise and document RCA investigations on Fabrication NCs; priorities agreed with Head of Production and Quality.
- Flag unsafe conditions on the Fabrication shop floor and request a work stoppage; escalate to Head of Production if not addressed.
- Display updated and revise MPIs / Standard Work documents at workstation level.
- Raise maintenance requests for equipment based on observed performance issues.
Work Activities
- Conduct daily morning meeting on Fabrication line — Review process adherence, output quality, safety observation.
- Time study at workstations — data collection, analysis, reporting.
- Weekly 5S audit — scoring, gap recording, follow-up.
- NC investigation — RCA documentation using 5-Why / Fishbone, CAPA entry and follow-up.
- Active initiatives for Kaizen events, improvement workshops, and EHS audits.
- Identifying operators training needs and driving training in coordination with
HOD and HR on process corrections and training.
Requirements
Education
B.E. / B. Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing or a related field
Experience
- 8 to 10 years of shop-floor experience in Fabrication is preferred.
- Good hands-on Welding process and materials properties.
- Has been involved in at least 1-2 process improvement or Lean initiatives where
they personally implemented changes and saw measurable results — not just attended training.
- Has used 5-Why or Fishbone in real NC investigations, not just as a classroom exercise.
- Basic familiarity with SAP or any ERP for production entries; willingness to learn SAP S/4 HANA is essential.
Technical Skills
Technical Expertise: Knowledge of Sheet metal Fabrication processes, equipment, and industrial systems.
Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot welding issues and implement effective solutions.
Project Management: Planning, budgeting, and coordinating production activities efficiently.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with tools like MS Office, Auto Cad, and production management software.
Behavioral Competencies
- Shop-floor presence — comfortable spending most of the day on the production floor, not at a desk.
- Plan deliverables – Monitor daily output, schedule resources to meet weekly and monthly planned deliveries.
- Attention to detail — catches process deviations, documents accurately, doesn't cut corners in reporting.
- Follow-through — when assigned an action, sees it to closure; doesn't leave things hanging.
- Curiosity about technology — reads about automation and new manufacturing tools; asks questions; open to learning.
- Communication — can write a transparent, factual NC report and explain a problem to a supervisor or manager without over-complicating it.
Pay: ₹1,000,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
