Procurement Manager
Location: Mumbai (Panvel)
Reports to: Program Director – End to End Project Success
Function: Direct materials procurement, BOM ownership, spares & aftermarket supply
The Role
Our Client, are a Single Note Inspection Machine for central banks and security printers.
You will own the bill of materials, the vendor base behind it, and the spares chain that keeps installed machines running at customer sites.
What You'll Own in 12 Months
BOM & Cost
- Bring landed BOM cost down by 8–12% — measured against the audited cost register, line by line.
- Second-source every single-source critical component — sensors, optics, drive systems, motion control. No more single points of failure on a machine going to a central bank.
- Cut procurement lead-time on the top 20 BOM items by 30%.
- Build a vendor scorecard for the top 40 vendors — quality (PPM), delivery (OTIF%), commercial behaviour.
- Clean up the cost register: zero unreconciled advances older than 90 days by month 6.
BOM Control & Iterations
- Own the BOM as a controlled document. Every revision carries a version number, an effective date, a reason for change, and a named approver. No informal part swaps.
- Run engineering change control on the commercial side: when engineering changes a part, you produce the cost delta, the lead-time delta, the obsolescence exposure on existing stock, and the effectivity cut-in point — before the change is released, not after.
- Maintain BOM lineage across machine variants and customer configurations. A part number must resolve to a known revision, a known supplier, and a known price at any point in time.
- Kill part proliferation. Drive standardisation and preferred-part lists so two machines don't carry three versions of the same bracket.
- Reconcile as-designed BOM against as-built BOM after every machine. Where they differ, close the gap in the document, not in someone's memory.
Spares & Aftermarket — 100 line items in scope
- Take ownership of the full 100-item spares catalogue: part number, supplier, unit cost, lead time, criticality class, and current stock position. Today this lives in fragments. Consolidate it into one controlled register.
- Classify all 100 items by criticality: machine-down items, degraded-performance items, and routine consumables. Stocking policy follows classification — not intuition, not the last panic.
- Set and defend min/max levels and reorder points for every line. Publish the logic so a replacement can run it without you.
- Own spares forecasting: build demand forecasts off installed base, machine running hours, historical consumption, and known preventive-maintenance intervals. Move the function from reactive to planned.
- Own preventive-maintenance kitting: pre-assembled kits per service interval, staged before the service window, not ordered after the call comes in.
- Guarantee site availability. Every commissioned and warranty site must hold its committed spares position. Target: 95% first-pick fill rate on machine-down items, zero site stockouts on critical class.
- Manage supply chain for imported spares — consolidated ordering, forecast sharing with the UK, and buffer sizing against their lead times rather than reordering item-by-item at full freight cost.
- Balance availability against working capital. High availability is easy if you buy everything; the job is high availability on controlled inventory. Own the spares inventory value and its turns.
- Build the spares commercial layer: pricing, AMC and warranty consumption tracking, and a clean split between warranty-covered and chargeable consumption.
- Run obsolescence and end-of-life management across the catalogue. When a supplier discontinues a part, you know before the customer does, and you've already secured a last-time buy or a qualified alternate.
Who I'm Looking For
- Manufacturing procurement, not corporate procurement. You've bought sub-assemblies, sensors, optics — not office supplies.
- You've taken landed cost down by 30%+ on a real component, in a real year. You can name it and prove it.
- You've second-sourced a single-source supplier and watched the first source's price soften.
- You've run a spares or aftermarket function for capital equipment with an installed base — forecasting, min/max, criticality classification, fill-rate accountability.
- You've managed BOM revisions under change control. You understand effectivity, cut-in, and what happens to the stock you're already holding when engineering changes a part.
- You can run forex, LCs, customs duty, ITC.
- You write things down. Scorecards, registers, monthly reviews. If it's not written, it doesn't scale.
- You can operate without scaffolding. You're not inheriting a team — you're building one.
