1. Structural Analysis and Design
Structural Engineer with 4 to 5 years experience .
- Analyze and design RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) and structural steel structures.
- Design structural elements such as slabs, beams, columns, shear walls, staircases, and foundations.
- Calculate dead loads, live loads, wind loads, seismic loads, and other applicable loads.
- Perform structural analysis to check bending moments, shear forces, axial forces, deflections, and stability.
- Ensure the structure meets strength and serviceability requirements.
- Optimize structural members to achieve economical and secure designs.
2. Structural Design Calculations
- Prepare detailed structural design calculations and reports.
- Check the adequacy of structural members under different loading conditions.
- Design reinforcement for beams, columns, slabs, footings, and retaining walls.
- Check punching shear, one-way shear, deflection, crack control, and development length, as applicable.
- Verify foundation design based on soil investigation reports and allowable bearing capacity.
- Review load combinations and design assumptions.
3. Structural Drawing Preparation
- Prepare structural layout plans, sections, and detailed reinforcement drawings.
- Develop foundation, column, beam, slab, and staircase drawings.
- Prepare reinforcement detailing and bar bending schedules (BBS), where required.
- Coordinate structural drawings with architectural and MEP drawings.
- Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, constructability, and consistency with design calculations.
- Incorporate approved revisions and maintain drawing revision records.
4. Structural Design Software
Use relevant structural engineering software for analysis, design,
and detailing.
Common software includes:
- ETABS – building analysis and design.
- STAAD.Pro – structural analysis and design.
- SAFE – slab and foundation analysis and design.
- SAP2000 – analysis of various structural systems.
- AutoCAD – preparation and modification of structural drawings.
- Revit Structure – structural modeling and BIM coordination.
- Excel – design calculations, load calculations, and engineering schedules.
5. Compliance with Design Codes
- Follow applicable national and international design standards.
- In India, use relevant IS codes, such as IS 456 for plain and reinforced concrete, IS 875 for design loads, and IS 1893 for earthquake-resistant design, where applicable.
- Apply appropriate load combinations and safety factors.
- Ensure structural systems satisfy strength, stability, and serviceability requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation of design assumptions and code provisions.
6. Coordination with Other Departments
- Coordinate with architects to finalize structural grids, column positions, floor levels, and building layouts.
- Work with geotechnical engineers to understand soil conditions and foundation requirements.
- Coordinate with MEP engineers to avoid clashes with beams, slabs, and other structural elements.
- Communicate design changes to drafting teams and project stakeholders.
- Respond to technical queries from site engineers and contractors.
- Review shop drawings and resolve design-related discrepancies.
7. Design Review and Quality Assurance
- Review structural models, calculations, and drawings for accuracy.
- Verify member sizes, reinforcement details, and load transfer paths.
- Check structural stability, lateral load resistance, and foundation adequacy.
- Conduct independent checks of critical calculations and design assumptions.
- Address comments from design reviewers, clients, and consultants.
- Ensure all issued drawings and calculations reflect the approved design.
8. Technical Support During Construction
- Clarify structural drawings and design requirements to site teams.
- Respond to requests for information (RFIs).
- Review proposed changes to structural elements and assess their engineering implications.
- Provide design solutions for unforeseen site conditions, subject to the required approvals.
- Review structural inspection observations and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Ensure significant design changes are reviewed and approved before implementation.
