Industrial Production Designer (Wood, Metal & Creative Products)

Position Overview

We are looking for a creative and technically skilled Industrial Production Designer to join our product development team. You will bridge the gap between artistic vision and manufacturing reality, designing innovative, high-quality creative articles, furniture, and consumer products made from wood, metal, and mixed materials.

The ideal candidate understands craftsmanship, modern manufacturing processes, and how materials behave, so that every design looks good and is also ready for batch or mass production.

Key Responsibilities

Concept & Creative Development

- Generate fresh design concepts for creative articles, furniture, home decor, and lifestyle products based on design briefs and market trends
- Create sketches, digital renderings, and mood boards to communicate design intent clearly
- Select wood species, metal types, and finishes that balance aesthetics, durability, and cost
- Technical Design & Prototyping
- Develop 3D CAD models and production-ready drawings using industry-standard software
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles for woodworking and metal fabrication processes such as CNC, laser cutting, bending, welding, and powder coating
- Oversee prototyping by working with workshop technicians to build, test, and refine physical samples

Production Collaboration & Quality Control

- Prepare Bills of Material (BOM) and complete technical documentation for the factory floor
- Troubleshoot issues during initial production runs to improve efficiency, reduce material waste, and lower costs




- Set tolerances and inspection criteria for wood joinery and metal finishes to maintain quality standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 3-5+ years of experience designing products in wood and metal
- A strong portfolio showing products or creative articles that went through to production
- Technical Proficiencies
- Advanced CAD skills in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Inventor, or SketchUp
- Rendering skills in KeyShot, Blender, V-Ray, or Enscape for realistic product visuals
- Strong knowledge of materials: wood grain, moisture behavior, seasoning, and joinery, plus metal grades, fabrication, welding, and finishing
- Ability to produce accurate technical drawings, cut lists, and BOMs
- Soft Skills
- Robust artistic eye with a passion for form, ergonomics, and material combinations
- Analytical, problem-solving mindset for working through manufacturing constraints
- Clear communication skills to work with artisans, engineers, and suppliers
- Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with shop machinery such as CNC routers, lathes, woodworking tools, or welding equipment
- Experience designing for retail or e-commerce product ranges, including flat-pack and packaging design
- Knowledge of CMF (colour, material, finish) development
- Awareness of sustainable design practices and responsible material sourcing
