Job Description: Draftsman (Expert in CAD), Textile Machinery Manufacturing

Department: Design & Engineering / R&D;
Reports to: Design Manager / Head of Engineering
Coordinates with: Design Engineers, Production, Machining, Assembly, Quality, Purchase, Service

1. Job Purpose

The Draftsman creates accurate, production-ready 2D drawings and 3D models for textile machinery components, sub-assemblies, and complete machines. Working closely with design engineers, this role converts concepts and sketches into detailed manufacturing drawings that follow standards, carry correct tolerances, and can be produced efficiently on the shop floor and by vendors.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. 3D Modeling & 2D Drafting

- Create detailed 3D part models and assemblies of textile machinery such as carding, drawing, combing, spinning, winding, and weaving machines, along with their sub-assemblies.
- Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings for machined parts, castings, forgings, sheet metal components, weldments, and fabricated frames.
- Prepare assembly drawings, sub-assembly drawings, exploded views, and installation/layout drawings.
- Apply correct dimensioning, tolerances, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T;), surface finish, and welding symbols as per standards.
- Prepare casting and pattern drawings with draft angles, machining allowances, and parting lines.
- Prepare sheet metal flat patterns and bend details for laser cutting and bending.

B. Bill of Materials & Documentation

- Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) with part numbers, materials, quantities, and bought-out item details.
- Follow the company’s part numbering system and drawing templates.
- Maintain drawing revision control, update revision blocks, and record Engineering Change Notes (ECNs).
- Release approved drawings to Production, Purchase, and Vendors through the PDM/PLM system or document control process.

- Maintain an organized drawing archive so that the latest revision is always available and obsolete drawings are withdrawn.

C. Design Support

- Convert design engineers’ sketches, calculations, and concepts into detailed models and drawings.
- Perform interference checks, motion studies, and fit checks on assemblies to catch issues before manufacturing.
- Suggest design improvements for manufacturability, ease of assembly, standardization, and cost reduction.
- Support reverse engineering by measuring existing parts and preparing drawings for them.
- Prepare spare parts catalogues, parts lists, and illustrations for manuals and the Service team.

D. Shop Floor & Vendor Coordination

- Clarify drawing-related queries from Machining, Fabrication, Assembly, Quality, and vendors.
- Visit the shop floor to understand manufacturing processes and resolve drawing issues raised during production.
- Incorporate feedback from production, assembly, and field service into drawing corrections.
- Support Quality in preparing inspection drawings and identifying critical dimensions.

E. Standards & Compliance

- Follow drafting standards such as ISO / BIS / ASME Y14.5 and company design standards.
- Use standard parts libraries for bearings, fasteners, keys, circlips, and pneumatic and electrical components.
- Make sure all drawings are checked and approved before release.

3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance is typically measured by drawing accuracy (low rate of errors found in production or by vendors), on-time completion of drawings and BOMs against project schedules,

number of revisions caused by drafting mistakes, compliance with drafting standards, and the quality of documentation and revision control.

4. Qualification & Experience

- Education: Diploma or B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, or ITI (Draughtsman Mechanical) with strong experience.
- Experience: 3–7 years as a draftsman or CAD designer in machinery, special purpose machines (SPM), or engineering manufacturing. Experience in textile machinery is preferred.
- Certification: Skilled certification in SolidWorks (CSWA/CSWP), Creo, or AutoCAD is an advantage.

5. Technical Skills Required

- Expert-level CAD: Advanced command of 3D tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, or SolidEdge, including part modeling, large assemblies, sheet metal, weldments, and drawing generation.
- 2D Drafting: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for detailed drawings and layouts.
- Engineering Knowledge: Sound understanding of GD&T;, limits, fits and tolerances, materials, heat treatment, surface finish, and welding symbols.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with machining (turning, milling, grinding), casting, sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Machine Elements: Knowledge of gears, shafts, bearings, belts, pulleys, cams, rollers, and pneumatic systems used in textile machines.
- Data Management: Experience with PDM/PLM systems and ERP for BOM entry is an advantage.

6. Behavioral Skills

The role calls for strong attention to detail, the ability to read and interpret complex drawings, good communication with engineers and shop floor teams, time management across multiple projects, and a willingness to learn new tools and processes.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month

Benefits:

- Cell phone reimbursement
- Flexible schedule
- Food provided
- Paid time off
- Provident Fund
