Job Description
You will provide comprehensive oral examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and authorized dental procedures for personnel supported by a remote-site clinic. Annual examinations and dental readiness activities are integral to this position, alongside routine appointments and assessment of urgent needs. Where diagnostic or specialty treatment exceeds local capabilities, you will arrange an appropriate referral and coordinate clinical documentation.
This role calls for practical decisions about what can be safely managed through the local dental facility and what needs specialist support. You will review medical and dental histories, assess urgent conditions, and use available imaging or laboratory resources to guide care. Patient education and follow-up planning are important throughout treatment, particularly when referral or travel documentation is necessary. You will also support examinations linked to annual readiness requirements and ensure screening results are recorded accurately. As part of the broader clinical team, you will contribute to equipment and supply readiness, proper instrument processing, incident reporting, and corrective actions when safety concerns arise. All services remain within authorized privileges and the resources available on the island.
Employment Type: Full time
Assignment Details:
This position requires relocation to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, for the duration of the assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine patients, evaluate oral health conditions, explain findings, and develop individualized plans for preventive, restorative, and urgent dental treatment.
- Deliver authorized dental services, including appropriate anesthetic administration and prescribing, while recognizing the limits of available resources and privileges.
- Conduct annual readiness examinations, coordinate screening documentation, and maintain complete electronic clinical and dental records.
- Use or coordinate available dental imaging and laboratory services; arrange specialty referrals and related documentation when local care is insufficient.
- Guide patient education and work with dental hygienists, assistants, and other clinicians to maintain effective follow-up and continuity.
- Oversee safe infection prevention, sterilization, equipment and instrument accountability, and patient safety escalation within assigned clinical responsibilities.
Your decisions will shape practical dental care in a setting where careful assessment, preventive treatment, and appropriate referral all matter.
