Dear Candidate,
We have job opening for E/M Coders.
JOB DESCRIPTION :
Speciality EM OP with Multi-Specialty (Family practice / Obstetrics & Gynecology)
DEPARTMENT: Coding
REPORTS TO: Coding Operations Lead
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly analytical Multi-Specialty Medical Coder to oversee coding and charge capture operations for our Ob/Gyn and Family Practice specialties.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in complex surgical coding (including unlisted procedures and payer-specific unbundling/CCI guidelines), alongside strong skills in clearing high-volume claim backlogs and auditing charge reviews. This position requires solid critical thinking to research payer guidelines and provide clear, clinical-grade feedback and coding rationale to practice management and providers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Family Practice & Routine Services
Outpatient & Primary Care Coding: Code Evaluation and Management (E/M) office visits, routine injections, preventive care, and minor primary care procedures.
Modifier Application: Correctly assign appropriate modifiers (e.g., Modifiers 25, 59, XE/XS/XP/XU, 79) to separate distinct E/M services from procedures or injections performed on the same date.
Diagnosis Specificity (ICD-10-CM): Review and refine diagnosis codes for maximum clinical specificity (avoiding unspecified codes) and link them appropriately to procedures to ensure medical necessity.
Gynecology (GYN) Specialty & Complex Coding
Surgical & Complex Procedure Coding: Review and code complex operative reports, surgical cases, and in-office procedures (e.g., IUD insertions/removals, iron infusions, minor gynecologic surgeries).
Unlisted Procedure Documentation & Research: Evaluate unlisted surgical codes (58999, 58579, etc.) by auditing EHR operative documentation for medical necessity, comparable CPT benchmark codes, and written rationale required for payer submission.
NCCI & Bundling Compliance: Identify bundled services, mutually exclusive procedures, and component codes using National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and payer-specific rules.
Provider Feedback & Rationale: Formulate clear, concise coding feedback—supported by official CPT guidelines, NCCI edits, or commercial payer policies—when a code is bundled, unbillable, or requires alternative coding approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Certifications (Holding Active Certification is an added advantage)
AAPC: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Specialty Coding Certification (COCOG preferred).
AHIMA: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P).
