1. Role Summary
The STEM teacher plans, delivers, and assesses integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics instruction across assigned grades in a K-12 school setting.
The role requires designing grade-appropriate learning experiences that build analytical thinking and problem-solving skills in students. The teacher works collaboratively with colleagues to align STEM programming with the school's academic standards and improvement goals.
2. Key Responsibilities
1. Plan and deliver STEM lessons for assigned grades in accordance with the prescribed curriculum framework and grade-appropriate learning outcomes.
2. Design hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, and project-based tasks that develop scientific reasoning and mathematical thinking in learners.
3. Assess student understanding through formative and summative tools, maintain accurate records of progress, and use data to adjust instruction.
4. Integrate computer science and computational thinking concepts into STEM units, including basic coding, logical sequencing, and algorithmic problem-solving where applicable.
5. Manage the STEM laboratory or maker space, ensuring equipment is used safely, maintained in working order, and inventoried at regular intervals.
6. Differentiate instruction to address the wide-ranging learning needs of students across the class, providing extension and support tasks as required.
7. Collaborate with subject-area colleagues to develop interdisciplinary units that connect STEM concepts with other curricular areas.
8. Organise and supervise STEM events such as science fairs,
robotics competitions, or innovation showcases for students across relevant grades.
9. Communicate student progress clearly to parents and guardians through written reports and scheduled conferences.
10. Participate in professional development, departmental meetings, and school-wide academic initiatives as directed by the academic leadership team.
3. Required Qualifications and Experience
1. Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as education, science, mathematics, or a related field.
2. Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience in a STEM or related subject at the K-12 level.
3. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute project-based and inquiry-driven learning units.
4. Working knowledge of computer science fundamentals and educational technology tools used in STEM instruction.
5. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required. Fluency in the regional language of the school's local area is an advantage.
4. Skills and Competencies
1. Strong command of core STEM content across at least two of the four disciplines: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
2. Ability to translate abstract concepts into concrete, grade-appropriate activities for learners across different grades.
3.
Proficiency in using learning management systems, presentation tools, and basic coding or robotics platforms relevant to K-12 education.
4. Clear written and verbal communication skills for interaction with students, colleagues, and parents.
5. Capacity to analyse student assessment data and use findings to inform lesson planning and intervention.
6. Effective classroom and laboratory management, including adherence to safety protocols.
7. Collaborative working style with the ability to co-plan and co-teach across departments.
8. Organised approach to managing multiple responsibilities, including lesson preparation, assessment cycles, and co-curricular commitments.
5. Selection Process
The selection process comprises five rounds designed to assess subject knowledge, pedagogical skills, and professional suitability.
Round 1 Application Screening: Review of the application, qualifications, and relevant experience against role requirements.
Round 2 Preliminary Interview: Structured conversation with the recruitment team to assess communication skills and general suitability for the role.
Round 3 – Subject Knowledge Assessment: Written or practical evaluation of STEM content knowledge and familiarity with the grade-appropriate curriculum.
Round 4 – Demo Lesson: The candidate delivers a structured lesson to a panel, demonstrating instructional approach, classroom management, and the ability to engage learners.
Round 5 – Final Interview: In-depth discussion with academic leadership to evaluate alignment with the school's pedagogical framework and professional expectations.
