Vertex Tax System Production Support Service Engineer

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Service Engineer to support Vertex tax systems and their integration with ERP platforms like Oracle Fusion. This role combines indirect tax knowledge with robust technical troubleshooting skills to ensure accurate tax calculations and smooth operations across multiple regions.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Support

- Manage tax rules, jurisdictions, and product taxability in Vertex.
- Ensure accurate tax rate setup, exemptions, and tax determinations.
- Support ERP integrations (e.g., Oracle Fusion) with Vertex.
- Handle tax configuration, categories, and exemption certificates.
- Assist with tax reporting, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Manage tax accruals and ensure alignment with the General Ledger.
- Prioritize and resolve user support tickets in a timely manner.
- Document solutions and update knowledge base.
- Support upgrades, patches, and system performance improvements.

Technical Operations

- Use SQL to analyze tax data and troubleshoot calculations.
- Debug ERP Vertex integration issues (e.g., tax mismatches, missing data).
- Maintain API integrations (REST/SOAP) and data flows.
- Optimize performance by resolving slow queries and batch issues.
- Work with FBDI and ADFdi tools for importing and updating tax data in Oracle Fusion.

Compliance & Reporting





- Prepare reports for Sales & Use Tax, VAT/GST, Withholding Tax, 1099/1042 forms.
- Assist with SOX audits and ensure proper documentation and controls.
- Reconcile tax data between Vertex, ERP subledgers, and GL.
- Validate and maintain audit-ready tax reports.
- Ensure compliance with Vertex engine updates and regulatory changes.

Operational Support

- Use MyVertex portal for troubleshooting, patches, and support tickets.
- Track and follow up on Vertex-related service requests.
- Test system and tax rate updates regularly.
- Support quarterly update testing for ERP and Vertex platforms.
- Collaborate with accounting, tax, and finance teams.
- Maintain best practices and troubleshooting documentation.

Required Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of indirect taxes (Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, Withholding Tax).
- 5+ years of experience with Vertex systems and ERP integrations.
- Experience in tax rule setup, jurisdiction mapping, and product taxability.
- Proficiency in SQL and tax data analysis.
- Experience with API troubleshooting and data integration flows.
- Understanding of tax reporting and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with SOX controls for tax processes.
- Hands-on experience with FBDI/ADFdi for data loads.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
