About the Company
UrjanovaC is a clean energy and net-zero solutions company founded by IIT Bombay faculty members Prof. Vikram Vishal and Prof. Arnab Dutta. The company specializes in pioneering carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. UrjanovaC has developed a patented carbon management technology that captures and converts carbon dioxide into valuable end products.
About the Role:
UrjanovaC Pvt. Ltd., an IIT Bombay-incubated deep-tech climate technology startup, is seeking a motivated Technologist to contribute to research and development in sustainable construction materials, industrial waste valorisation, and CO₂ capture and storage in construction materials.
The role involves laboratory-scale experimentation, material characterization, process development, and pilot-scale trials focused on converting industrial and construction waste into value-added construction materials while enabling CO₂ mineralization and long-term storage. The candidate will also support technology benchmarking, industry collaborations, and the development of commercially viable carbon utilization solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Research & Experimentation: Conduct laboratory experiments related to cement chemistry, construction materials, and CO₂ capture, mineralization, and storage in construction materials.
- Waste Valorisation: Investigate the processing and utilization of industrial and construction waste, including steel slag, Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS),
Cement Kiln Dust (CKD), and demolished concrete, as alternative raw materials or supplementary constituents in construction applications.
- Material Testing & Characterization: Perform testing and characterization of raw materials, processed waste, cementitious systems, and developed construction materials to evaluate their physical, chemical, and mechanical properties.
- CO₂ Mineralization & Storage: Support research on mineral carbonation, CO₂ incorporation into cementitious systems, and other pathways for permanent CO₂ storage in construction materials.
- Experimental Data Management: Collect, analyse, interpret, and document experimental data while maintaining accuracy, reproducibility, and proper laboratory records.
- Pilot-Scale Trials & Process Optimization: Collaborate with senior researchers and engineers to conduct pilot-scale trials, troubleshoot experimental challenges, and optimize material formulations and process parameters.
- Technology Assessment & Benchmarking: Conduct competitive assessments of relevant technologies, research developments, and industry players. Support project leaders in defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarking technical and commercial performance.
- Industry Collaboration & Commercialization: Support technical discussions with cement manufacturers, construction companies, and other industry stakeholders to explore collaborative research, pilot deployments, and commercialization opportunities for CO₂ utilization technologies.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare technical notes, research reports, experimental summaries, presentations, and other project-related documentation.
Desired Qualifications & Skills:
- Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong fundamentals in cement chemistry, concrete technology, construction materials, and construction processes.
- Prior interest in sustainable construction, low-carbon cement, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), and industrial waste valorisation.
- Familiarity with industrial by-products and waste materials such as steel slag, GGBFS, CKD, and demolished concrete is preferred.
- Understanding of cementitious materials, mineral carbonation, concrete mix design, or construction material testing is an advantage.
- Hands-on laboratory skills, with an ability to follow experimental procedures and laboratory safety protocols.
- Solid analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Good technical writing, documentation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary research teams and industry partners.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
