About General Autonomy

General Autonomy is building the next generation of intelligent autonomous ground robots, including quadrupeds, humanoids and UGVs , together with the actuators, electronics, AI and electromechanical systems that power them.

Unlike most robotics’ companies, we build across the entire technology stack in-house. Around 90% of the company is engineering, working across five core disciplines: mechanical and actuator design, electronics, controls, robot learning, and deployment. Our teams work on locomotion, perception, navigation, reinforcement learning, edge AI, embedded systems, actuators, motor controllers, precision gearboxes, rugged electronics and manufacturing.

We believe tightly integrating hardware and software is essential to building robots that can operate reliably in real-world and demanding environments.

Our flagship quadruped, PARAM, is designed for reconnaissance, logistics, surveillance and other demanding field operations. Our humanoid platform, ATOM, is being developed for dexterous and remote tasks in challenging environments. Alongside these platforms, we are also building UGVs and investing in indigenous actuators, electronics and manufacturing capabilities to strengthen the domestic robotics ecosystem.

General Autonomy was founded by IIT Kanpur alumni Bhanu Singh, CTO, and Farid Ahsan, CEO, who previously built and scaled ShareChat and Moj. The company has raised over US$6.5 million from leading venture investors.

The Role

This is a senior hands-on individual contributor role, with leverage to evolving automation systems. You will build the supplier and procurement operating system while personally executing the work: interpreting technical BOMs, identifying and developing suppliers, running RFQs, negotiating commercial terms, resolving shortages and creating visibility on cost, capacity and risk.

The role suits an experienced professional who wants to remain close to the detail and is motivated by a blank-sheet workplace. You should be equally comfortable solving a part-level delivery issue today and designing the sourcing strategy needed to scale from prototypes to tens and hundreds of systems.

What You Will Own

Supplier ecosystem and sourcing strategy

- Build and continuously improve a supplier ecosystem for mechanical, electrical and electromechanical parts, assemblies and services.
- Work directly with engineering on technical BOMs, drawings, specifications,

supplier selection and manufacturability trade offs.
- Run supplier discovery, RFQs, should cost discussions, negotiations, contracts and onboarding; develop credible alternate sources for critical items.
- Create category and sourcing strategies that evolve from prototype quantities to repeatable production at tens and hundreds of systems.

Material readiness and build execution

- Translate engineering demand and BOM revisions into practical procurement, material planning and supplier delivery actions.
- Own follow through on purchase orders, lead times, minimum order quantities, capacity constraints, shortages and expediting when required.
- Coordinate logistics, imports and material movement where needed so engineering and production builds are not blocked.

Cost risk localization and availability

- Maintain BOM cost visibility and identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising technical or reliability requirements.
- Assess supplier, geographic, capacity, obsolescence and single source risks; establish mitigation plans with engineering and operations.
- Drive localization and make or buy decisions where they improve availability, cost, quality or resilience.

Operating foundation

- Create lightweight and scalable processes for approved suppliers, supplier performance, order tracking, shortage reviews, escalation and change control.
- Use data and simple dashboards to make cost, delivery, capacity and risk visible; improve the system as production maturity increases.
- Partner with quality on supplier qualification, incoming quality issues, corrective actions and supplier development.

What Success Looks Like

- Engineering and build teams have a clear material plan and earlier visibility of supply risk.
- Critical parts have qualified suppliers, realistic lead times and deliberate alternate source strategies.
- Prototype purchasing evolves into a disciplined sourcing system capable of supporting repeat production.
- The function operates effectively in a lean organisation without depending on a large team.

Experience and Capabilities

- Experience 6 to 9 years in supply chain, procurement, strategic sourcing or materials management for complex hardware.
- Essential foundation Direct hands-on experience with supplier sourcing, commercial negotiation, delivery execution and cross-functional work with engineering or manufacturing.
- Technical fluency Ability to read and discuss BOMs, drawings, specifications and revision changes well enough to make sound sourcing and supplier decisions.
- Build stage mindset Evidence of creating processes, supplier relationships or operating mechanisms in an ambiguous NPI, prototype, low volume or scaling environment.

Relevant career paths

Candidates may come through either of the following paths. Deep expertise in every supply chain discipline is not required.

- Strategic sourcing and supplier development strength, with working knowledge of material planning, inventory and logistics; OR
- Materials planning and procurement execution strength, with demonstrated supplier negotiation, qualification and development experience.

Relevant category depth

Strong experience in one or more of the following is sufficient, provided you can learn adjacent categories and work effectively with technical owners.

- Precision machining, fabrication, mechanisms, actuators, gearboxes or structural parts; OR
- Electronics, PCBAs, sensors, connectors, harnesses or contract manufacturing; OR
- Power systems, batteries, motors, composites or other specialised hardware categories.

Preferred Background

- Robotics, aerospace, automotive, industrial automation, defence, drones, medical devices or another complex hardware sector.
- Practical exposure to ERP or MRP tools, supplier quality methods, cost modelling, import processes or contract manufacturing. Depth may vary based on your career path.
- Engineering, supply chain, operations or business degree, or equivalent practical experience. Credentials are secondary to demonstrated ownership and execution.

Who Will Thrive Here

You are a builder who treats strategy and execution as connected work. You do not need a team or a finished process to create impact. You can move from supplier calls and order details to system design and risk decisions, communicate directly with engineers and suppliers, and leave behind a stronger operating foundation than the one you inherited.
