SDET 2 Test Automation (Mobile • Web • Backend)

What you will do

Own mobile automation for the commuter app establish and own the mobile test automation strategy end-to-end framework selection, suite architecture, and device coverage across an Android-first Indian device matrix covering onboarding, vehicle registration, trip history, and the earnings/settlement experience.

Own web automation build UI automation (Playwright/Cypress or equivalent) for our web surfaces the public site and the city-pilot/ops dashboards including visual regression on data-heavy views and accessibility checks against our WCAG AA commitments.

Own backend & API automation design API contract and integration test suites for the services behind ANPR ingestion, trip reconstruction, reward computation, and UPI settlement with correctness of money movement as the highest-stakes surface.

End-to-end journey coverage stitch the three layers together: automated journeys from a simulated plate detection through backend processing to the reward appearing correctly in the app the test that actually proves the product works.

¢ Data correctness & reconciliation testing build automated reconciliation checks between detections, reconstructed trips, computed rewards, and settled payouts, validated directly against PostgreSQL.

¢ Build simulation & test harnesses create synthetic ANPR event generators (plate reads, confidence scores, out-of-order and duplicate events) so cross-layer journeys can run without waiting for road traffic.

¢ CI/CD quality gates integrate all suites into our AWS-based CI/CD pipelines; define what blocks a deploy per surface, keep the signal trustworthy, and drive flake rate toward zero especially on mobile, where flakiness goes to die.

¢ Privacy-aware test data build DPDPA-compliant test data practices synthetic number plates, masked PII, no production personal data in lower environments and make the safe path the easy path.

¢ Raise the teams quality bar review testability in design discussions across app,



web, and backend teams, and document quality standards as the engineering team grows.

What we are looking for

Must-have

¢ 36 years in SDET / test automation roles with hands-on automation across at least mobile + backend or web + backend in production systems, and real ownership of test strategy not only script maintenance.

¢ Mobile automation experience: Appium, Maestro, Espresso, XCUITest, or Flutter integration tests, including device-matrix strategy and taming mobile flakiness on real devices or device clouds.

¢ Web UI automation experience: Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium at a level where you have designed the suite architecture, not just added cases to one.

¢ Backend API automation: REST/gRPC contract and integration testing against real databases, with solid SQL for validating data correctness directly in PostgreSQL (or similar).

¢ Strong programming ability in at least one of TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, Kotlin, or Dart you write test infrastructure as production-quality code.

¢ CI/CD fluency: you have owned pipeline quality gates (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar) and fought flaky tests systematically across more than one surface.

¢ Fluency with AI coding assistants (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as a working practice we are an AI-first engineering team and will test this in the hiring process.

¢ Communication integrity: you report what you found, including inconvenient results. Overstating coverage or hiding known gaps is a hard disqualifier for us.

Nice-to-have

¢ Experience testing asynchronous or event-driven systems (Kafka, SQS, or similar) idempotency, ordering,



retry behaviour a strong plus given our pipeline architecture.

¢ Performance/load testing experience (k6, Locust, Gatling) with results that changed engineering decisions.

¢ Exposure to geospatial data (PostGIS), payments/fintech-grade correctness testing, or computer-vision/ML system evaluation (e.g., ANPR accuracy measurement).

¢ AWS familiarity (ECS, RDS, MSK, IAM), visual regression tooling, or accessibility testing experience (WCAG).

¢ Experience in an early-stage startup or testing systems with regulatory/audit requirements.

What success looks like (first 90 days)

¢ Days 030 understand the RBCP domain end-to-end; audit existing coverage on all three surfaces; ship your first automated suite (API layer) into CI; propose the mobile and web automation framework choices with rationale.

¢ Days 3160 mobile smoke suite running on a real-device matrix and web suite covering the critical dashboard paths; deploy-blocking quality gates agreed per surface; synthetic ANPR event generator adopted by the backend team.

¢ Days 6190 at least one true end-to-end journey automated simulated detection through backend to reward visible in the app; reconciliation checks running in CI; a pilot-readiness quality report we would be comfortable showing a city partner.
