About Ushur | Ushur GenAI
Title: People Operations Specialist | Experience: 5–7 years | Location: Bengaluru | Work mode: Hybrid | Reports to: Director, People Operations
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on People Operations Specialist to independently manage and continuously improve HR operations for Ushur's India organization, working closely with our global People and Operations teams. You’ll own the day-to-day: payroll inputs, benefits, onboarding and exits, HR systems, recruitment operations and employee support. You’ll also make that work better.
When you see a manual process, you’ll simplify it, automate it, or turn it into self-service, using AI and automation where they help, with care for employee data. You’ll build and improve these workflows yourself, not just identify them.
AI-Native Operations
At Ushur, we believe modern People Operations should be increasingly intelligent, automated, and employee-centric. You will actively explore how AI, automation, and better system integration can improve the quality and efficiency of HR operations.
- Identify repetitive, manual processes and implement practical automation.
- Improve employee self-service through digital workflows, knowledge resources, and intelligent assistance.
- Leverage AI tools for appropriate administrative, analytical, reporting, and recruitment-support activities.
- Measure improvements in turnaround time, data accuracy, employee experience, and manual effort.
- Apply human oversight, privacy safeguards, and sound judgment, particularly when handling confidential employee information or supporting people-related decisions.
- We value practical improvements that deliver measurable results, not technology adoption for its own sake.
Responsibilities
Payroll and statutory compliance
- Independently manage monthly payroll inputs, validation, reconciliations, and coordination with Finance and payroll partners.
- Administer full and final settlements, including applicable notice-period adjustments, leave encashment, gratuity, and recoveries.
- Manage employee tax declarations, investment proofs, Form 16, and payroll-related queries.
- Implement approved changes to compensation structures, payroll policies, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee, compensation, attendance, and leave records.
Perks and vendor management
- Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, life insurance and wellness programmes.
- Coordinate enrolments, changes,
claims support and benefits queries.
- Prepare annual benefits reviews and renewals using data analysis, vendor comparisons and recommendations.
- Manage relationships with insurers, brokers and other partners, monitor service quality, and coordinate the related admin and invoicing.
Onboarding and Offboarding
- Manage onboarding from pre-joining documents through orientation and HR systems setup, so every new hire has a consistent, welcoming start.
- Coordinate lifecycle changes, including transfers, promotions, compensation updates and documentation.
- Manage offboarding: exit documents, clearances, F&F; coordination and benefits transitions.
HR systems and data
- Administer our HRIS and applicant tracking system: records, workflows, reporting and data integrity.
- Configure, build and improve HR workflows, approvals and self-service, and fix them when they break.
- Build and maintain operational reports and dashboards that support decisions.
- Respond to employee queries on policies, benefits, documents and HR processes, and prepare employment letters and verifications.
Hiring operations
- Manage end-to-end recruitment operations: job postings, sourcing, initial screening, interview coordination, offers and background verification.
- Coordinate interviews and candidate communication across distributed teams.
- Keep the applicant tracking system and hiring reports accurate, and improve the candidate experience.
Compliance, audits and calendars
- Coordinate HR compliance activities, statutory reporting, POSH-related administration, and required employee training.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation to support internal and external audits.
- Maintain key People Operations calendars, compliance deadlines, and recurring administrative processes.
Performance, engagement and recognition
- Support performance review cycles, compensation administration, and employee recognition programmes.
- Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, feedback surveys, and related activities.
What success looks like
By day 90:
- Build a strong understanding of Ushur's HR processes, systems, policies, and stakeholders.
- Independently manage core People Operations activities with accuracy and reliability.
- Establish effective working relationships across India and global teams.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to simplify or automate existing processes.
By month 12:
- Demonstrate consistent accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across core HR operations.
- Improve operational efficiency and the employee experience through measurable process improvements.
- Implement meaningful automation or self-service enhancements.
- Build scalable, well-documented processes that support organizational growth.
Qualifications
Essential
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering,
IT or a related technical field (B.Tech, BE, BCA, BSc CS or similar).
- 5–7 years in HR operations, ideally at a startup or scale-up.
- 3+ years preparing accurate monthly payroll inputs (joiners, exits, LOP, variable pay), with a working knowledge of India statutory benefits (PF, ESI, PT, gratuity) to answer employee queries and check F&F; inputs.
- Proof that you build things and don’t just use them: workflows, reports, trackers or automations you set up yourself in an HRIS, Google Sheets, Apps Script, Zapier or similar.
- You use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT every day to create real work, and you check what they give you before you rely on it.
- You’re comfortable reading, testing, and fixing formulas, workflow rules, and simple scripts. You don’t wait for someone else to do it.
- Hands-on setup of a modern HRIS and ATS: fields, workflows, permissions and reports.
- You can run onboarding, exits, benefits, employee queries and recruitment operations on your own from start to finish.
- You’re careful with data and treat confidential information that way.
- You write and speak clearly with teams in India and the US
Nice to have
- An MBA or Master’s in HR alongside your technical degree.
- Experience with Rippling or a similar all-in-one HRIS.
- Basic SQL, scripting or working with APIs.
- Experience with benefits renewals, audits or performance review admin.
- Experience at a global B2B SaaS company.
You’ll enjoy this role if you see a manual process and want to fix it rather than repeat it, and you’d like HR to be an area where operations and technology meet.
