Role: Mechanical Design Engineer
We are looking for a passionate and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D; team. This role offers an opportunity to work on the development of innovative mechanical systems and precision engineering products, taking designs from initial concepts through prototyping, testing, and refinement.
The ideal candidate enjoys both designing in CAD and working hands-on with physical components. The role involves developing and iterating design concepts, fabricating prototypes using our in-house 3D printing facility or external manufacturing vendors, and performing practical workshop activities such as drilling, rework, fitting, and assembly. We are looking for someone who can translate design ideas into functional prototypes, identify practical engineering challenges, and improve designs through hands-on experimentation.
What you'll do:
- Translate functional requirements into practical, manufacturable mechanical designs.
- Develop and iterate design concepts using CAD tools, incorporating feedback from prototype evaluation and testing.
- Fabricate prototypes using in-house 3D printing facilities and coordinate with external vendors for components requiring other manufacturing processes.
- Perform hands-on prototyping activities, including drilling, tapping, cutting, fitting, rework, and mechanical assembly.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and assembly issues and implement design improvements based on practical observations.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate mechanical components with electrical, optical, and other subsystems.
- Prepare engineering drawings, GD&T;, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
- Support prototype testing, design verification, and continuous improvement of mechanical assemblies.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Recent graduates and early-career engineers are encouraged to apply.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical design,
engineering drawing, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in at least one CAD platform, such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, CATIA, or NX.
- A strong hands-on approach to engineering, with the willingness and ability to personally fabricate, modify, rework, and assemble prototypes.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, machining, drilling, tapping, and fastening methods.
- Ability to identify design and manufacturing issues during prototyping and translate them into improved CAD designs.
- A practical problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in an R&D; environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with internal teams and external manufacturing vendors.
Nice to have:
- Experience with FDM, SLA, or other 3D printing technologies.
- Experience developing precision mechanical components, enclosures, fixtures, or electromechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with GD&T;, tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM/DFA principles.
- Exposure to structural or thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or Abaqus.
- Experience working on research prototypes, robotics, medical devices, or multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Why join us:
- Work on technically challenging engineering problems in a research and development environment.
- Gain exposure to multidisciplinary projects involving mechanical design, prototyping, and system integration.
- Take ownership of the complete development cycle, from concept development and CAD design to fabrication, assembly, testing, and refinement.
- Work with up-to-date prototyping facilities and external manufacturing partners to turn design concepts into functional products.
What matters most: We are looking for someone who enjoys building things as much as designing them. The ideal candidate should be comfortable moving between CAD and the workshop, personally carrying out prototype modifications and assembly, and iterating on designs until they work as intended. Immediate joiners are encouraged to apply as well.
