Senior Software Engineer/ Lead - Ruby on Rails - Location: Chennai - Employment Type: Full-time - Team: Engineering - Experience: 8-12 Years (Senior / Lead)

Role Profile: A senior engineering role on a product team building and operating a high-traffic Ruby on Rails platform. Engineers are expected to operate autonomously and own their work end-to-end - from feature development through delivery and operation.

The environment is polyglot: while the core is Ruby on Rails, some services run on the JVM, so comfort working across languages is expected.

Responsibilities

- Feature development and BAU across the Rails application surface

- Shared library ownership - business-logic and UI-component gems

- Supporting services across the platform

- Code review, technical documentation, and architectural input

Requirements

- Ruby on Rails - production-grade, multiple years;

experience across the full stack (models, controllers, background jobs, API design, server-rendered views)

- PostgreSQL - schema design, query optimisation,



migrations on large datasets

- Redis / Sidekiq - async job patterns, queue management

- RSpec - test-driven development as a default, not an afterthought

- REST API design and consumption

- CI/CD - running and debugging pipelines; owning delivery end-to-end, not just the code; GitHub Actions preferred but any CI/CD experience is sufficient

- AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) - fluent daily use across the build/test/review stages of the development lifecycle

- Polyglot comfort - some services run on the JVM (e.g. Clojure/JRuby); willingness to work beyond Ruby and pick up current languages on the job is essential

- Strong async communication in English

- Nice-to-have Kafka / event-driven architecture (pub/sub across services)

- Cloud deployment - AWS EKS; comfortable reading infrastructure config, understanding pod/deployment lifecycle, and operating in a cloud environment

- Elasticsearch or Algolia (search and recommendation features)
