Bengaluru
Ctrl Alt Experience (CAX) builds immersive experience centres, museums and interactive installations across India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Touch tables, projection, large format displays, real time 3D, interactive exhibits.
We are hiring a Site Engineer to help take these from a packed crate to a working, signed off installation.
This is a site role and an early career one. You will spend most of your time at project sites, learning from people who have done this for years. We are not looking for someone who already knows our stack. We are looking for someone who thinks clearly under pressure and can be trusted in front of a client.
Location: Bengaluru based, with frequent travel to project sites across India and occasional travel to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Site stays of two to three weeks during installation phases are normal.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT
Communication. You will be on site with the client, the main contractor and their IT team while our developers are in Bangalore. You need to describe what you are seeing accurately, in writing and on a call, to people who cannot see it. "It is not working" is not a report. "Station 4 shows the Windows desktop, the app does not launch, this started after the power cut last night" is.
Reading a situation. Knowing when something is a five minute fix and when it is a problem that needs to be escalated now. Knowing when to tell a client you do not have an answer yet, and when the next update will come. Knowing what matters three hours before a client walkthrough and what can wait.
Troubleshooting instinct. Changing one thing at a time. Checking the obvious before the exotic. Swapping in something known to work to narrow down the fault. Noticing what changed since it last worked. This is a way of thinking, not a list of facts, and it is the thing we cannot teach quickly.
Ownership. On site you are often the only CAX person there.
Nobody will assign you the next task.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Site surveys and readiness checks: power, network, mounting, access, dimensions
- Install and mount displays, touch tables, media players, PCs, projectors and sensors
- Run, terminate, test and label network and AV cabling
- Set up PCs and media players: OS configuration, displays, kiosk mode, startup behaviour, remote access
- Deploy software builds to site machines and verify each station works as specified
- Work through the commissioning checklist station by station and drive the snag list to zero
- Diagnose faults on site and either fix them or report them precisely enough that a remote developer can
- Report daily site status with photos and a clear list of what is open
- Maintain handover documentation: device inventory, IP schedules, cable schedules
- Support client walkthroughs, UAT and handover
WHAT YOU NEED
- 1 to 2 years of experience in any hands on technical role: IT support, AV, systems integration, ELV, electronics, networking, field service, hardware support. Fresh graduates with real hands on project work will be considered
- Comfortable with Windows, and willing to learn macOS. Able to install software, change display settings, find logs
- Basic networking understanding: what an IP address is, the difference between static and DHCP, how to use ping to check whether something is reachable. You will learn the rest here
- Comfortable opening things up, mounting hardware, running and terminating cable
- Clear written and spoken English.
You will be writing site reports the client reads
- Willing and able to travel, with a valid passport or willing to get one
- Able to work in an active construction or fit out setting, including late nights before a client walkthrough
- Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Science or similar is useful but not required
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN HERE
- AV systems: signal paths, extenders, matrix switchers, projection setup and alignment, audio
- Media players and digital signage platforms including BrightSign
- Network configuration on site: VLANs, switches, static addressing, device connectivity
- Deploying and troubleshooting Unity, Unreal Engine and real time 3D builds
- How a large experiential project actually gets delivered, from survey to handover
WHO THIS SUITS
Someone early in their career who would rather be on site than at a desk. Someone who checks the input selection before escalating, changes one variable at a time, and labels the cables properly because they know who has to fix it at 2am six months from now. Someone who can stand in front of a client and give an accurate status instead of a reassuring one.
If you want to learn this industry from the inside and you are not precious about long days and unglamorous work, this is a good place to start.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Work on some of the most ambitious experiential projects in the region
- A small, senior team. You will learn AV, software and real time 3D from people doing it hands on
- Real ownership of sites early, rather than a slot in a large delivery machine
- A clear path toward Project Engineer and site ownership
- To apply, send your CV and a short note answering this: describe something technical that stopped working, and how you worked out why. It does not have to be from a job.
