We are looking for a finance leader to own the company’s financial strategy, capital raising, financial controls and global financial operations. The CFO will build the finance function that supports this growth, secure the funding to fuel it, and keep the company financially disciplined and compliant.
This is a strategic partner role to the founders and board, not only a reporting function.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fund Raising and Capital Strategy
- Define the company’s funding strategy across equity, debt, venture debt, working-capital lines and other structures.
- Lead fund-raising rounds end to end: investor outreach, pitch and financial narrative, valuation discussions, due diligence, term sheet negotiation and closing.
- Build and maintain relationships with VCs, angel investors, family offices, banks, NBFCs and other financial institutions.
- Prepare investor decks, financial models, data rooms and information memoranda.
- Manage cap table, shareholder agreements, ESOP structuring and post-investment investor reporting.
- Advise on future options such as strategic investments, M&A; and eventual exit or listing paths.
2. Finance Control and Governance
- Establish and run strong internal financial controls, approval matrices and audit trails.
- Oversee accounting, month-end and year-end closing, and accurate, timely financial statements.
- Manage statutory, internal and tax audits, and ensure clean outcomes.
- Design policies for procurement payments, expense control, credit, receivables and inventory valuation.
- Introduce risk management practices, including fraud prevention and internal audit.
3. Budgeting, Planning and Analysis
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning.
- Track performance against plan through MIS,
dashboards and variance analysis for each business line.
- Analyse unit economics, product and project profitability, and pricing and margin structures.
- Give leadership data-driven recommendations on investments, current product lines and cost optimisation.
4. Cash Flow and Working Capital
- Manage cash flow, liquidity and treasury, with a focus on working capital in a business with inventory, imports and project-based or institutional receivables.
- Manage banking relationships, credit limits, letters of credit, bank guarantees and trade finance.
- Control receivables, collections and vendor payables to keep the cash cycle healthy.
5. Global Financial Management
- Manage cross-border finance, including import payments, foreign-currency exposure and hedging strategy.
- Oversee compliance under FEMA, RBI regulations and foreign-investment rules (FDI/ODI), as applicable.
- Structure international vendor and distributor payment terms, and understand customs duties, Incoterms and landed cost.
- Evaluate and, where needed, set up international entities, structures and transfer-pricing arrangements.
- Track global economic, currency and trade-policy trends that affect sourcing and pricing.
6. Taxation and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, Income Tax, GST, TDS, customs and other statutory requirements, including ROC and MCA filings.
- Plan taxes efficiently and lawfully, and manage assessments and notices.
- Ensure readiness for tenders,
government and institutional procurement that require financial documentation.
7. Leadership and Business Partnership
- Build, lead and develop the finance, accounts and compliance team.
- Work with Sales, Procurement and Operations on pricing, credit terms, approvals and project costing.
- Implement and improve ERP, accounting and reporting systems for scalability.
- Support the board and founders with clear financial reporting and strategic counsel.
Qualifications and Experience
- Chartered Accountant (CA) is preferred. CFA, CPA, MBA (Finance) or equivalent from a reputed institution is also acceptable.
- [12+] years of progressive finance experience, with at least [5] years in a CFO, Finance Head or equivalent senior role.
- Proven fund-raising experience: having led or been closely involved in raising equity and/or debt capital, with a track record of closed deals.
- Strong experience in financial controls, audit, compliance and building finance systems from the ground up or at scale.
- Working understanding of global finance: forex, imports and exports, cross-border compliance and international trade.
- Experience in a growing company in technology, hardware, electronics, trading, distribution or education technology is an advantage.
