Job Title: Freelance Subtitling & Localization Specialists — Asian Languages

Pepper Media | Remote | Project-based

Pepper Media is building a network of experienced freelance translators, subtitlers and language reviewers for entertainment content across Asian markets. We are looking for specialists in:

- Korean
- Thai
- Indonesian / Bahasa Indonesia
- Malay / Bahasa Malaysia
- Vietnamese
- Mandarin Chinese, including localization for Singapore audiences
- Other Southeast Asian languages

You may apply for one or more languages based on your expertise. What you’ll do
- Translate and localize dialogue from English into your target language, preserving meaning, tone, humour and cultural context.
- Create and edit subtitles with accurate timing, synchronization, segmentation and readable line breaks.
- Follow client guidelines for reading speed, character limits, terminology and formatting.
- Review subtitles against the video and audio to identify mistranslations, omissions and timing issues.
- For reviewer assignments, independently check another linguist’s work and provide clear corrections.
- Deliver consistent, production-ready subtitle files within agreed timelines.

Who we’re looking for

- Native or near-native proficiency in the target language and strong English comprehension.
- Proven experience subtitling films, television, web series or other entertainment content.




- Familiarity with professional subtitling tools and formats such as SRT and VTT.
- Robust understanding of cultural nuances, colloquial speech and natural dialogue.
- Attention to detail, reliable communication and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience with broadcaster or streaming-platform requirements is an advantage.

Our approach to quality We are looking for language professionals who take responsibility for every subtitle. Any use of AI or machine translation must follow project guidelines, and all output must be thoroughly checked by a qualified human linguist against the source content. Unreviewed automated translations will not be accepted.

Engagement

This is a remote, freelance opportunity, with assignments based on language requirements and project availability. Rates will be agreed based on experience, scope and whether the assignment involves translation, timing or quality review.
