LFA Development Scientist – Early Breast Cancer Diagnostics
Location
[Delhi NCR / Noida / Gurugram]
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience: 2–6 years
Industry: IVD / Diagnostics / Biotechnology / Medical Devices
About the Role
We are developing an early breast cancer detection lateral flow assay (LFA) based on a dual-biomarker approach, with a focus on clinically relevant biomarkers, analytical performance, and real-world usability.
We are looking for a hands-on LFA/IVD development professional who can contribute across the complete assay development cycle—from antibody and biomarker evaluation through conjugation, membrane optimization, sensitivity tuning, assay troubleshooting, and translational scale-up.
This role is suited for someone with practical experience in lateral flow assay development, rather than purely academic or theoretical exposure.
Key Responsibilities
1. LFA Assay Development
- The dual-biomarker assay architecture will be developed and optimized for early breast cancer detection.
- Suitable antibody pairs, recombinant proteins/antigens, and detection systems will be evaluated.
- Capture and detection antibody combinations will be screened for sensitivity, specificity, and signal-to-background performance.
- Assay conditions including sample volume, reaction time, buffer composition, and test format will be optimized.
2.
Antibody
Conjugation & Detection Chemistry
- Gold nanoparticle/latex or other suitable reporter conjugation approaches will be developed and optimized.
- Antibody-to-particle conjugation conditions, loading, stability, and conjugate performance will be evaluated.
- Detection chemistry will be optimized to achieve strong signal generation while minimizing nonspecific background.
3. Membrane & Strip Optimization
- Nitrocellulose membranes, conjugate pads, sample pads, absorbent pads, and backing materials will be evaluated.
- Membrane selection and running characteristics will be optimized based on assay requirements.
- Blocking, surfactant, buffer,
and pad-treatment conditions will be systematically optimized.
- Test-line and control-line performance will be evaluated and optimized.
4. Sensitivity, Specificity & Analytical Performance
- The assay will be optimized for clinically meaningful analytical sensitivity and specificity.
- Limit of detection (LoD), dynamic range, precision, reproducibility, interference, cross-reactivity, and matrix effects will be evaluated.
- Individual biomarker performance and combined dual-biomarker performance will be assessed.
- Assay failure modes and sources of variability will be systematically investigated.
5.
Biological
Sample & Translational Development
- Assay performance using relevant clinical sample matrices, particularly serum/plasma, will be evaluated.
- Sample preparation and matrix compatibility will be optimized where required.
- Correlation with established reference methods such as ELISA/CLIA will be investigated.
- The candidate will support transition from laboratory prototype to a robust, reproducible diagnostic product.
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc./M.Tech./Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 2–6 years of hands-on experience in LFA/rapid diagnostic assay development.
- Strong practical understanding of lateral flow assay components and development workflows.
- Experience with antibody screening, pairing, conjugation, membrane selection, strip assembly, and assay optimization.
- Experience working with serum/plasma or other biological matrices will be highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of immunoassay principles and diagnostic assay development.
- Ability to independently design experiments, troubleshoot assay performance, and interpret experimental data.
Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will be strongly preferred:
- Dual/multiplex biomarker LFA development
- Early cancer or oncology diagnostics
- Breast cancer biomarkers
- Quantitative or semi-quantitative LFA platforms
- Gold nanoparticle or latex-based detection systems
- Recombinant antibody / monoclonal antibody evaluation
- Clinical sample testing
- ELISA/CLIA correlation studies
- IVD product development and analytical validation
- Transition of prototype assays toward manufacturing
- ISO 13485 / IVD development environments
What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will be a hands-on assay developer who is comfortable working at the bench and solving experimental problems. You should be able to move from:
Biomarker & antibody selection → conjugation → membrane optimization → prototype development → sensitivity/specificity optimization → clinical sample evaluation → scale-up with a strong focus on reproducibility, analytical performance, and practical product development.
