Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
VLA Industries Limited | Karnal, Haryana
Reports to: Managing Director & CEO
Employment: Full time, senior leadership position
Role objective
VLA Industries Limited is seeking a commercially oriented Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, working-capital management, banking relationships, financial controls, profitability improvement, and growth financing.
The CFO will be a strategic business partner to the MD & CEO, responsible for ensuring that the company’s growth is profitable, adequately funded, financially controlled, and scalable.
This is not a conventional accounts and compliance role. The successful candidate must understand manufacturing economics and be capable of converting financial data into operational and commercial decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Treasury and working-capital management
- Own the rolling 13-week cash-flow forecast and annual cash budget.
- Manage OD/CC facilities, drawing power, utilisation, liquidity, and banking documentation.
- Improve receivables collection, inventory efficiency, supplier credit, and the cash-conversion cycle.
- Forecast cash requirements for major customer orders before production commitments are made.
- Establish early-warning mechanisms for liquidity shortfalls and debt-service risks.
- Banking, debt and growth financing
- Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, and credit-rating agencies.
- Lead working-capital enhancement proposals, term-loan applications, BG/LC facilities, and refinancing discussions where appropriate.
- Prepare lender presentations, financial projections, CMA data, and information required for credit appraisal.
- Evaluate alternative funding structures, including customer advances, eligible invoice financing, and strategic capital.
- Ensure borrowing remains aligned with repayment capacity and approved financial risk limits.
- Manufacturing finance and profitability
- Establish accurate product-, customer-, and programme-level costing.
- Analyse gross contribution, EBITDA,
material-price exposure, scrap, rework, labour costs, and conversion costs.
- Support pricing decisions and challenge orders that create unacceptable margin or cash-flow risk.
- Review make-versus-buy decisions, subcontracting economics, and capital expenditure proposals.
- Work with Production, Procurement and Commercial teams to improve profitability and cash generation.
- Financial planning and management reporting
- Prepare annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and three-year financial projections.
- Produce a reliable monthly MIS covering revenue, contribution, EBITDA, cash flow, debt, receivables, inventory, and capex.
- Explain variances between actual results, budget, and forecast.
- Build scenario models for customer programme ramp-ups, capacity expansion, acquisitions, and new businesses.
- Present concise, decision-oriented financial reports to the MD & CEO and Board.
- Accounting, controls and compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate financial statements, statutory filings, GST, income tax, TDS, and other applicable compliance.
- Strengthen internal financial controls, approval limits, payment controls, reconciliations, and audit readiness.
- Coordinate statutory and internal audits and close audit observations on time.
- Establish reliable financial data and reporting processes within the ERP/accounting systems.
- Maintain appropriate controls over related-party transactions, commitments, and capital expenditure
- Strategic growth and capital allocation
- Evaluate new manufacturing capacity, factory expansion, acquisitions, and diversification opportunities.
- Prepare investment appraisals with payback, return on capital,
funding requirements, and downside scenarios.
- Support due diligence and integration for acquisitions or strategic partnerships.
- Ensure each business or new venture has a clear P&L;, cash-flow forecast, and investment accountability.
- Advise the CEO on growth options that improve enterprise value without compromising liquidity.
Candidate profile
- Chartered Accountant (CA) strongly preferred; an equivalent senior finance professional may be considered only with demonstrably strong manufacturing-finance and treasury experience.
- Typically 12–20 years of relevant experience, including substantial responsibility in a manufacturing or industrial business.
- Prior experience as CFO, Finance Controller, GM Finance, or Head of Finance in a mid-sized manufacturing company.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with working-capital facilities, OD/CC management, lender negotiations, and financial forecasting.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing costing, inventory, receivables, contribution margins, and capital expenditure.
- Experience with ERP systems, advanced Excel, budgeting, management reporting, and financial controls.
- Ability to work directly with a promoter-led business and challenge commercial assumptions professionally.
- Strong integrity, execution discipline, communication skills, and willingness to work from Karnal.
Key performance indicators
- Accurate and timely 13-week cash-flow forecasts.
- Improved collection performance and cash-conversion cycle.
- No avoidable statutory-compliance failures.
- Reliable monthly MIS delivered within an agreed closing calendar.
- Improved visibility into product and customer profitability.
- Better utilisation of banking facilities and reduced avoidable finance costs.
- Timely completion of lender documentation and funding proposals.
- Disciplined capital expenditure and post-investment reviews
