Role Summary The ERP Integration Architect will own the technical discovery, architecture, data mapping, validation, and delivery of integrations between external ERP systems and our platform. The role requires deep, hands-on knowledge of Epicor, Infor, and SAP S/4HANA, as well as SAP-based internal enterprise systems such as SAP Torque and EMSAP.
The ideal candidate combines strong ERP platform expertise with modern integration fundamentals. This person must be comfortable working directly with customer and partner technical teams, ERP vendors, architects, and developers to analyze ERP data models, evaluate integration options (OData, BAPIs, IDocs, REST, ION BODs), map source payloads to a common data model, and drive an integration from initial discovery through production readiness.
This is not a DevOps or infrastructure operations role. The primary responsibility is ERP integration architecture and engineering: understanding how each ERP platform exposes its data, selecting the right integration pattern for each system, validating data semantics, documenting contracts, and ensuring that data moves correctly and securely between external ERP systems and our platform.
What You Will Do
- Architect ERP integrations: Analyze and design integrations from ERP systems, including Epicor (Eclipse and Kinetic/ERP 10), Infor, and SAP S/4HANA, into our platform for purchase orders, sales orders, order lines, vendors, customers, products, inventory, shipment status, and related business entities.
- Integrate with SAP landscapes: Connect our platform to SAP S/4HANA and SAP-based internal systems such as SAP Torque and EMSAP for order status, acknowledgements, line-level commitments, shipment information, tracking, estimated ship and delivery dates, and exception data.
- Select the right SAP integration pattern: Evaluate and implement SAP integration options including OData V2/V4 services, BAPIs, RFCs, IDocs, CDS views, and SAP BTP / Integration Suite (CPI), based on each client’s system landscape, authorization model, and IT constraints.
- Work with Infor integration technologies: Integrate via Infor ION, the ION API Gateway, and BODs (Business Object Documents), and map Infor data structures into the platform’s common data model.
- Lead API and system discovery: Work with customer and partner IT teams to obtain API documentation, sandbox environments, credentials, authentication details, sample payloads, custom module documentation (including non-standard SAP modules), rate limits, and production onboarding requirements.
- Perform source-to-target data mapping: Analyze ERP payloads and data models and map them into standardized target entities such as orders, order line items, shipments, shipment milestones, organizations, locations, products, exceptions, and alerts.
- Define and maintain a common data model: Translate ERP-specific schemas (items, customers, suppliers, purchase orders, sales orders, inventory, pricing) into a common structure, normalizing statuses, dates, units, and identifiers across Epicor, Infor, and SAP sources.
- Implement and troubleshoot authentication: Work with API keys, Basic Authentication, OAuth 2.0, SAML, bearer tokens, JWTs, client credentials, certificates, SAP user/authorization objects, and IP allowlisting where required.
- Validate data correctness: Compare raw payloads, transformed records, and expected business outcomes. Identify missing fields, ambiguous semantics, invalid status mappings, incorrect dates,
duplicate events, and relationship mismatches across ERP sources.
- Coordinate write-back integrations: Help define and test controlled updates back into client ERP systems, including endpoint safety, permissions, optimistic concurrency, idempotency, audit evidence, and rollback or retry behavior.
- Support event-driven data pipelines: Define how raw ERP payloads are published to messaging systems such as Kafka, transformed into standardized events, validated, persisted, replayed, and routed to downstream workflows.
- Document integration contracts: Produce onboarding checklists, endpoint catalogs, authentication notes, request/response examples, mapping documents, sequence diagrams, test results, known limitations, and production handover material.
- Collaborate across teams: Work closely with solution architects, backend engineers, data engineers, QA, product teams, customer IT teams, ERP administrators, SAP Basis/security teams, and external API providers to move integrations forward and resolve blockers.
- Own integration issues through resolution: Investigate failures across source connectivity, authentication, request formation, schema changes, payload mapping, data quality, and downstream processing, and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Mandatory Skills
- 8+ years of ERP integration, enterprise application integration, or middleware experience: Strong preference for candidates who have delivered integrations across supply-chain, distribution, or manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience with at least two of: Epicor, Infor, SAP S/4HANA: Working knowledge of each platform’s data model, core transactional objects (purchase orders, sales orders, vendors, products, shipments), and native integration surfaces.
- Strong SAP integration knowledge: Deep understanding of OData (V2/V4), BAPIs, RFCs, and IDocs, plus practical awareness of authorization objects, custom Z-modules, and SAP BTP / CPI. Ability to analyze SAP-based internal systems such as SAP Torque and EMSAP, including non-standard modules and custom data structures.
- Epicor integration experience: Hands-on knowledge of Epicor APIs (Eclipse and/or Kinetic REST, BAQs, Business Objects), core ERP concepts, session/authentication handling, and controlled write-back operations.
- Infor integration experience: Working knowledge of Infor ION, ION API Gateway, and BOD-based data exchange.
- Strong REST API fundamentals: HTTP/HTTPS, methods, headers, status codes, query parameters, JSON/XML payloads, pagination, retries, rate limits, timeouts, idempotency, and API versioning.
- Solid authentication and authorization knowledge: Hands-on experience with API keys, OAuth 2.0, SAML, bearer tokens, JWTs, client credentials, certificates, and secure credential handling.
- Data mapping and transformation skills: Ability to analyze nested JSON/XML payloads and ERP table structures, identify source keys and business meaning, define mappings, normalize statuses and dates, and validate transformed output against target contracts.
- Supply-chain domain knowledge: Solid understanding of procurement, order-to-cash, purchase orders,
acknowledgements, shipments, tracking, backorders, inventory, MRP/MPS, and vendor relationships.
- Integration troubleshooting mindset: Ability to isolate whether a failure originates in credentials, authentication, authorization, network access, request format, source data, ERP configuration, schema mismatch, transformation logic, or downstream processing.
- Strong communication skills: Ability to lead technical discussions with external partners and ERP vendors, ask precise questions, explain blockers, document evidence, and translate between business and technical stakeholders.
- Strong documentation discipline: Ability to produce clear API notes, mapping specifications, test scenarios, sequence diagrams, issue reports, onboarding checklists, and handover documentation.
- Ownership and follow-through: Ability to manage integration dependencies, coordinate with multiple parties, track open questions, and drive an integration from discovery to production readiness.
Good to Have
- SAP BTP / Integration Suite (CPI) delivery experience: Building and operating iFlows, mappings, and adapters for S/4HANA landscapes.
- Middleware/iPaaS experience: MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, or custom integration frameworks (Python/Node.js-based).
- Kafka and event-driven integration knowledge: Topics, partitions, keys, consumer groups, retries, dead-letter queues, schema evolution, idempotency, replay, and event-driven data flows.
- EDI and B2B integration exposure: Familiarity with EDI documents such as 810, 850, 855, and 856; AS2, SFTP, flat-file exchange, or trading-partner onboarding.
- OpenAPI and schema tooling: Experience reading and validating OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, JSON Schema, Avro, or Protobuf definitions.
- Database fundamentals: Working knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL for validating source records, transformed data, audit data, and integration state.
- Data standards and semantic modeling: Familiarity with ontologies, controlled vocabularies, industry product-classification standards (such as ETIM or UNSPSC), graph databases, or knowledge graphs.
- ERPNext/Frappe or other open-source ERP exposure: Understanding of open-source ERP data models and customization patterns.
- Cloud and platform experience: GCP/AWS/Azure, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD practices.
- Certifications: SAP (Integration Suite, S/4HANA), Epicor, or Infor certifications.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- A hands-on ERP integration architect who is equally comfortable reading SAP function-module documentation, testing an OData endpoint, analyzing an Epicor or Infor payload, and speaking with a client’s ERP or Basis team.
- Can understand both sides of an integration: what the source ERP system provides and what the target platform requires.
- Communicates clearly, asks the right technical questions, and converts incomplete information — including undocumented internal SAP systems — into structured integration requirements.
- Treats raw payload evidence, mapping correctness, authentication security, idempotency, traceability, and documentation as core engineering concerns.
- Works effectively in a fast-moving environment where client ERP systems differ significantly and integrations require practical investigation rather than assumptions.
- Can collaborate closely with architects and developers while independently owning partner communication, ERP analysis, mapping inputs, and integration acceptance.
