Engineering Manager – .NET & Azure

Hands-on engineering leadership | Architecture | Client collaboration

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on engineering leader to help a capable team take a mature and growing product forward. The role involves working on interesting product and engineering challenges, combining technical leadership, engineering delivery, mentoring, architecture and close collaboration with product and client stakeholders, with room to influence technical direction and how the team works.

This is not a traditional project-management role, nor a people-management role disconnected from engineering. You’ll remain meaningfully involved in the engineering itself — moving comfortably between code, architecture, debugging, technical decisions and planning, while helping the team make sound decisions and deliver well.

You’ll be working on a product with a rapidly expanding customer base across the global AEC industry.

Dwaravati is a software development studio with a small team of experienced engineers. We work closely with client stakeholders to shape and build products, and operate as a lean, cohesive and highly effective company with a flat hierarchy and an open, collaborative setting where experienced engineers have significant ownership and autonomy.

At a glance

- Experience: Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager / Development Manager / Technical Lead
- Core technology: Microsoft .NET / C# / Azure
- Engineering: Hands-on leadership across architecture, design, coding, debugging and technical delivery
- Systems: Significant experience with mature, long-lived production software
- Leadership: Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Collaboration: Strong experience working with product, business and client stakeholders

The role and your ownership You will lead day-to-day engineering and delivery, combining technical leadership, hands-on engineering, mentoring and direct collaboration with product, QA, delivery and business stakeholders. Coding, design reviews and debugging will remain a meaningful part of the role.

You will work closely with the founder during a gradual leadership transition, learning the product, domain and technical context that has accumulated over time. As you build that context, you will increasingly take ownership of engineering and delivery decisions and become the team's first point of contact for most engineering matters.

The founder will remain involved in selected architectural, strategic and people matters, while providing historical context where useful. You will have significant autonomy in how the team and system evolve, with the support and context needed to make good decisions.

This is a role for someone who enjoys ownership without unnecessary hierarchy — someone who still likes getting into technical detail, but also wants the scope to influence engineering direction, help others grow and make the team and product better over time.

What you will do

Lead technical direction

- Guide architecture and implementation decisions across a mature, long-lived production codebase.
- Be a trusted technical sounding board for engineers, helping them work through design choices, difficult bugs, performance and reliability problems, and architectural questions.
- Stay hands-on through coding and prototyping, design and code reviews, technical investigation, debugging, system design and technical documentation.
- Help the team evolve the system pragmatically, balancing immediate needs with maintainability, performance, reliability and long-term technical health.

Help the team deliver well

- Work with engineers on estimation, planning, technical task breakdown, sprint execution, bug triage and capacity.
- Help turn uncertainty and competing priorities into clear engineering decisions and practical delivery plans.
- Identify recurring problems and improve the underlying system or practices rather than repeatedly treating the symptoms.
- Improve engineering practices and processes where they make a meaningful difference to quality, delivery or team effectiveness.

Work closely with product and client stakeholders

- Work directly with product, QA, client and business stakeholders to turn incomplete or evolving requirements into actionable plans.
- Explain technical options, constraints and uncertainty clearly, including implications for performance, scalability, reliability and cost.
- Disagree constructively when needed, while keeping discussions focused on the problem and the outcome.

Mentor and support engineers

- Help engineers improve not only their code, but their engineering judgment and ability to make sound technical decisions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring suited to each engineer's experience and needs.
- Contribute to performance discussions, career development and the continued growth of the engineering team.

Essential experience This role could suit an Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, Development Manager, Technical Lead or similar engineering leader with genuine responsibility for both people and engineering outcomes.

- Strong .NET engineering experience: Substantial experience designing, building and maintaining long-lived production applications using .NET and C#. You have the technical depth and interest to remain hands-on, and are comfortable reasoning about architecture, services and APIs, asynchronous and concurrent systems, persistence and data access, performance, diagnostics and observability. You understand how maintainability, deployment and runtime behaviour shape the evolution of a system over time.
- Practical Azure experience: Meaningful production experience with Azure and cloud-hosted applications. You should be comfortable reasoning about compute, messaging, databases and storage, caching, scaling, monitoring, reliability and deployment, including performance and cost. You do not need to know every Azure service.
- Engineering leadership: Meaningful experience leading and mentoring engineers, balancing technical and delivery priorities, and taking responsibility for team and engineering outcomes. You are comfortable working with Scrum or similar agile practices and adapting the process when circumstances call for it. You are comfortable giving difficult feedback, handling competing priorities and supporting engineers through their growth.
- Strong stakeholder communication: Substantial experience working directly with product, business or client stakeholders. You can explain complex technical situations clearly, navigate ambiguity, discuss trade-offs openly and disagree constructively when needed.
- Engineering judgment: You are comfortable working with imperfect information and making pragmatic decisions in complex, evolving systems. You care about long-term technical health without losing sight of the product and business outcomes the team needs to deliver.

Helpful but not required Any of the following would be useful, but is not essential:

- High-volume or performance-sensitive applications
- Experience with mature B2B products
- Experience as an application or solution architect
- Azure or Microsoft certifications
- AEC domain experience

How we work We value thoughtful engineering over unnecessary complexity, responsibility over hierarchy, and direct but respectful communication.

We expect senior people to form opinions, test assumptions and change their minds when better information emerges. We encourage constructive disagreement, intellectual honesty and low-ego collaboration.

We value sustainable processes that improve outcomes without unnecessary bureaucracy. People are trusted to take ownership, make decisions and raise problems early, while working together to find the best solution for the product, the team and our clients.
