Quality at DIRECTV starts long before a product reaches the customer. As part of DQE, you’ll work alongside engineering teams to strengthen how software is designed, tested and released. You’ll drive automation, testing and quality practices across products and platforms, helping teams identify issues earlier, improve reliability and deliver with greater confidence.

Position Summary:

To help drive this next chapter, we're seeking a strategic and innovative Director, Quality Engineering, to lead our Non-Functional Quality Engineering organization. This role defines and executes the technology vision, engineering strategy, and delivery roadmap for performance engineering, resilience engineering, quality governance, and AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities. As a people leader,



you will build and develop high-performing engineering teams while driving modernization, automation, operational excellence, and scalable quality engineering solutions across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate combines deep quality engineering expertise, proven people leadership experience, and a passion for leveraging AI, automation, and cloud technologies to improve software quality, scalability, reliability, and customer experiences.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

- Develop and evolve roadmaps for quality engineering capabilities.
- Align technology and testing strategies with enterprise business objectives.
- Own departmental priorities, resource planning, and delivery outcomes with minimal oversight.
- Drive innovation through AI-enabled quality engineering, automation, and emerging testing technologies.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Operations teams to improve overall software quality

People Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and develop quality engineering managers, technical leaders, and quality engineering teams.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Drive talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Establish quality engineering standards, governance, and operational excellence practices.

Technology & Delivery:

- Oversee functional and non-functional testing, load testing, resilience testing, security testing, environment, data and automation engineering initiatives.
- Ensure enterprise applications meet scalability, reliability, security, performance and customer journey testing objectives.
- Lead modernization efforts involving AI-enabled testing and autonomous quality engineering.
- Drive continuous improvement and enterprise quality practices.
- Establish governance frameworks supporting quality engineering at scale

AI & Innovation:

- Drive adoption of AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to leverage automation and intelligent testing strategies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and develop future-state quality engineering roadmaps.
- Champion data-driven quality engineering and operational decision-making.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

- 14-18 years of progressive software engineering and quality engineering experience.
- Proven experience managing and developing technical teams of individual contributors.
- Demonstrated ability to own and execute departmental strategy with minimal oversight.




- Solid experience with performance engineering, scalability engineering, security testing, resilience engineering, test environment management, service virtualization, and test automation.
- Hands-on experience with Performance Center or comparable enterprise performance testing platforms.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale quality engineering transformations.
- Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
- Experience operating within Agile and DevOps delivery environments.
