Position Summary:

To help drive this next chapter, we're seeking a strategic and innovative Director, Data Engineering, to lead our enterprise data engineering organization. This role defines and executes the technology vision, engineering strategy, and delivery roadmap for DIRECTV's modern data platforms and analytics ecosystem. As a people leader, you will build and develop high-performing engineering teams while driving platform modernization, data innovation, operational excellence, and scalable data solutions that enable business growth and advanced analytics.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in enterprise-scale data engineering, proven people leadership experience, and a passion for building cloud-native data platforms that empower data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

- Develop and evolve engineering roadmaps for enterprise data platforms, analytics capabilities, and data services.




- Align technology investments and platform strategy with business priorities and data-driven decision-making objectives.
- Own departmental priorities, budgets, and outcomes with minimal oversight.
- Drive innovation through modern data architecture, automation, AI-enabled analytics, and emerging technologies.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Data Science, Analytics, and Enterprise Technology teams to deliver business value.

People Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers, technical leaders, and high-performing data engineering teams.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Drive talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and operational excellence across the organization.

Technology & Delivery:

- Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise-scale data platforms and pipelines.
- Drive enterprise data architecture, platform modernization, and scalable pipeline design.
- Establish reusable engineering frameworks and cross-domain data architecture standards.
- Ensure platform scalability, reliability, governance, performance, and cost optimization.
- Champion cloud-native data engineering practices and modern distributed processing frameworks

Data Platform Innovation:

- Advance DIRECTV's modern data platform strategy using Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, and cloud-native technologies.
- Drive adoption of scalable data lake and data warehouse architectures.
- Identify opportunities to improve analytics capabilities, engineering productivity, and operational efficiency.
- Champion data-driven decision-making across the organization through high-quality, trusted data solutions.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

- 14-18 years of progressive experience in data engineering and technology leadership.
- Proven experience leading multiple data engineering teams and delivering large-scale enterprise initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to define technical strategy, establish engineering standards, and drive execution across multiple domains.
- Extensive experience with enterprise data architecture, platform modernization, and scalable data pipeline design.
- Solid knowledge of cloud-native data platforms, distributed processing, and modern data lake and data warehouse architecture.
- Experience managing executive stakeholders and influencing technology strategy across the organization.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience leading large-scale data, analytics, architecture, governance, or technology organizations




- Experience leading leaders and cross-functional teams within complex enterprise environments
- Proven track record executing enterprise data strategies and roadmaps to accelerate modernization, improve business outcomes, and strengthen organizational agility
- Deep expertise across the data lifecycle, including architecture, governance, quality, metadata, lineage, platform engineering, and operational management
- Experience modernizing and scaling enterprise data ecosystems, including cloud-based platforms, within highly regulated or complex operating environments

Required Technical Skills:

- Snowflake
- Databricks / Apache Spark
- Data Pipeline & Platform Design and Architecture (incl. Data Mesh foundations)

Demonstrated Soft/Leadership Skills in a Data delivery organization:

- Data and metrics driven delivery management in Secure/Agile frameworks

Education:
