Deputy Manager Industrial Relations & HR Operations

(Manufacturing)

Who We Are

Tor.ai is an Industrial IoT product company that builds connected devices and solutions for industrial applications. Our portfolio includes IoT gateways, sensors, controllers, multifunction meters, HT/LT panels and connected solutions used across industrial automation, energy, HVAC, electric mobility and other field-deployed applications.

Our teams bring together hardware, firmware, software, product management, implementation, manufacturing, sales and support expertise to solve real industrial problems.

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on, technologically adaptable HR and Industrial Relations professional who can independently manage manufacturing workforce operations, employee relations, workplace discipline, contract labour and statutory compliance while strengthening HR processes and employee development.

The role will be assigned to the Production function and will work closely with manufacturing leadership and central HR to ensure effective manpower management, structured onboarding, accurate attendance administration, employee engagement, recruitment, training and HRMIS-driven process improvement.

This is not a conventional administrative or compliance-only IR role. The individual must be comfortable working directly with blue-collar and contractual employees, resolving operational HR issues, using modern business applications and taking ownership of processes through complete closure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Industrial Relations, Contract Labour & Compliance

- Manage employee relations, grievances, counselling and workplace discipline for permanent, contractual and blue-collar employees.
- Maintain regular shop-floor interaction, identify workforce concerns and resolve issues fairly while balancing employee welfare and organisational requirements.
- Handle disciplinary matters, investigations, warnings and corrective actions through appropriate documentation and established procedures.
- Coordinate with manpower contractors for workforce deployment, attendance, replacement requirements and contract labour administration.
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, statutory requirements, contractor obligations and employment regulations, including PF, ESI, wages, working hours and overtime.
- Maintain statutory records, support compliance audits and ensure timely closure of identified gaps.

2. Attendance, Workforce Administration & HR Operations

- Monitor daily attendance, absenteeism, leave, shift rosters, overtime and manpower availability for the manufacturing workforce.
- Reconcile biometric attendance, HRMIS records and approved attendance regularisations, ensuring accurate and timely payroll inputs.
- Coordinate with Production supervisors to address manpower shortages, recurring absenteeism and workforce-related operational concerns.
- Manage employee records, employment documentation, probation, confirmation, transfers and exit formalities for assigned employees.
- Maintain accurate workforce data, documentation and HR records with appropriate approvals and audit readiness.
- Identify recurring administrative issues and implement practical controls to improve accuracy, discipline and operational efficiency.

3. Recruitment, Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle

- Support manpower planning and recruitment for production operators,

technicians, assembly personnel, quality inspectors, supervisors and related manufacturing roles.
- Coordinate sourcing, screening, interviews, trade tests, selection, offers and joining formalities with Production and central HR.
- Independently execute structured onboarding covering pre-joining documentation, HRMIS registration, biometric enrolment, HR induction and employee integration.
- Coordinate shop-floor orientation, safety induction, SOP familiarisation and role-specific training with Production, Quality and relevant departments.
- Ensure completion of onboarding checklists, documentation, induction records and follow-up checkpoints with employees and reporting managers.
- Track onboarding effectiveness, joining conversion and early attrition, addressing identified gaps through corrective actions.

4. Employee Engagement, Learning & Development

- Plan and execute employee-engagement, welfare, recognition and workplace communication initiatives for the manufacturing workforce.
- Conduct regular employee interactions, gather feedback and address concerns to improve employee relations and retention.
- Coordinate training-needs analysis with Production and Quality teams using skill gaps, supervisor feedback and operational requirements.
- Maintain skill matrices, training calendars, nominations, attendance and training documentation.
- Conduct HR induction, workplace conduct and policy-awareness sessions while coordinating technical and functional training through relevant trainers.
- Support training effectiveness measurement through assessments, feedback and follow-up with reporting managers on workplace application.

5. HRMIS, Digitalisation & Reporting

- Effectively administer HRMIS processes covering attendance, leave, employee records, onboarding, payroll inputs and training.
- Understand HR process requirements and support development or enhancement of HRMIS modules, workflows, approval mechanisms and reporting features.
- Conduct user acceptance testing, identify system defects, validate outputs and coordinate improvements with internal teams or vendors.
- Use Microsoft Excel, HRMIS reports and dashboards to analyse headcount, attendance, absenteeism, overtime, attrition, recruitment and training.
- Identify opportunities for process digitisation, automation and improved adoption of modern business applications.
- Develop practical SOPs, checklists and process controls, ensuring accurate reporting, clear accountability and timely closure of assigned activities.

Required Skills

- Strong practical knowledge of Indian labour laws, industrial relations, statutory compliance and contract labour administration.
- Hands-on experience managing permanent, contractual and blue-collar workers within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to handle employee grievances, workplace discipline, counselling and conflict resolution firmly and fairly.
- Experience in attendance administration, payroll inputs,

employee lifecycle processes and structured onboarding.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing recruitment, employee engagement and training coordination.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and HRMIS proficiency, with the ability to understand digital workflows, test applications and support process improvements.
- Good analytical ability, documentation accuracy, communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple operational priorities and drive responsibilities through closure.
- Effective communication in Marathi and Hindi, with good working proficiency in English.

Preferred Profile

- Education: B.E./B.Tech mandatory, preferably in Electrical, Electronics, Electronics & Telecommunication, Instrumentation or related engineering disciplines. MBA/PGDM in Human Resources or Industrial Relations is highly preferred.

- Pune-based candidates or candidates with a practical long-term plan to work from Pune will be preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with shop-floor workers in Marathi and/or Hindi, along with good working proficiency in English
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career with Tor.ai and progressively growing into broader HR business-partnering and leadership responsibilities.

Behavioural Attributes The ideal candidate should be:

- Approachable: Builds trust with employees without compromising skilled boundaries.
- Technologically adaptable: Comfortable learning and using current applications, systems and digital tools.
- Hands-on and proactive: Takes initiative and engages directly with shop-floor employees and supervisors.
- Analytical and organised: Uses data, follows processes and maintains accurate documentation.
- Accountable: Independently manages responsibilities and ensures timely closure.
