Engineering Manager, Data

Experience: 15+ years, with a strong, hands-on data engineering background

Location: Bangalore

Mission

Lead a data engineering capability directly not just manage delivery. This person needs to be able to get into the data, the architecture, and the dbt/pipeline work themselves, not just coordinate other people's output. They're also the connective tissue between the Application team and the data team, making sure what one side builds actually lines up with what the other side needs.

What you'll own

- Direct, hands-on leadership of a data engineering capability able to dig into data modeling, architecture, and pipeline work personally, not just review it.
- DevOps ownership for the team's work — CI/CD, deployment, setting setup
- Coordination with the Application team — understanding what they're building and changing, and translating that accurately back to the data team so nothing gets lost in handoff
- Setting technical direction and raising the bar for the data engineers reporting to this role

Hands-on data engineering ----- High ----- Must be able to personally lead technical work, not just delegate it — this is explicitly not a delivery-only manager role

DevOps ----- Medium-High ----- Comfortable owning CI/CD, deployment, and environment setup across the team's work

Cross-team coordination ----- High ----- Primary bridge between the Application team and the data team — needs to translate accurately in both directions, not just relay messages

People leadership ----- High ----- Managing and growing a team of data engineers

Communication ----- High ----- Needs to be trusted by both technical engineers and non-technical/business stakeholders
