Embedded Tech Lead - Embedded Systems & Customer Engineering

Role Overview :

We are looking for an Embedded Tech Lead to oversee the engineering and delivery of embedded software solutions across multiple customer engagements.

The position requires strong low-level programming expertise, practical experience across bare-metal and operating-system-based environments, and the ability to guide technical teams through complex product development challenges.

Beyond engineering execution, this role will serve as a key technical interface for international customers, translating product expectations into achievable engineering plans.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on problem-solving with team development, delivery governance, and technical contribution to business growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities :

- Embedded Solution Development : Lead implementation of embedded software using C across bare-metal platforms, RTOS-based systems, and Linux-enabled devices.
- Hardware Platform Enablement: Guide software development for ARM-based processors, Cortex-A architectures, and general-purpose microcontrollers, accounting for platform-specific constraints and interfaces.
- Driver and System Software Engineering : Oversee device driver implementation, operating-system integration, and Linux kernel and user-space development as required by project scope.
- Technical Problem Resolution : Investigate complex software and hardware-interaction defects, conduct root-cause analysis, and guide engineers towards effective corrective solutions.
- Architecture and Design Ownership : Evaluate system requirements, define software components and interfaces, and review technical approaches for suitability, maintainability, and performance.
- Multi-Project Coordination : Manage engineering priorities across concurrent assignments, balance team capacity, identify dependencies, and address delivery risks before they affect customer commitments.
- Effort Estimation and Scheduling : Convert customer requirements into engineering estimates, resource plans, milestones, and actionable task assignments.
- Delivery and Quality Governance : Monitor implementation progress, review deliverables, assess technical risks,



and ensure outputs satisfy agreed acceptance criteria and project timelines.
- International Customer Management : Engage directly with customers in the US and Europe to clarify expectations, communicate technical progress, resolve concerns, and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
- Team Leadership and Development : Lead and mentor engineers, support performance assessments, establish individual development objectives, and build a sustainable team structure.
- Technical Capability Building : Identify skill gaps, organise technical training, encourage knowledge sharing, and prepare team members to take on greater technical responsibility.
- Pre-Sales Engineering : Contribute to proposal preparation, technical solution discussions, effort estimation, and customer presentations during new business opportunities.
- Recruitment and Technical Evaluation : Interview engineering candidates, assess practical technical competence, and support hiring decisions based on project and organisational requirements.
- Customer Value Enhancement : Identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency, strengthen delivery practices, and recommend technical improvements that benefit customer outcomes.
- Onsite Engagements : Participate in customer visits or onsite assignments when required to support technical alignment and project execution.

Required Technical Expertise :

- 8 years of experience in embedded software development, firmware engineering, or embedded systems design.
- Strong proficiency in C programming, including debugging and development for resource-constrained systems.
- Practical understanding of processor and microcontroller architectures, particularly ARM and Cortex-A families.
- Experience working across bare-metal programming, real-time operating systems, and device driver development.




- Familiarity with Linux kernel development and Linux user-space application programming.
- Understanding of embedded system architecture, hardware-software integration, and operating-system interactions.
- Ability to analyse technical problems, evaluate implementation alternatives, and guide complex debugging activities.
- Experience reviewing software designs and assessing technical deliverables against project requirements.

Project and People Management Requirements :

- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple engineering projects and maintain visibility into schedules, resources, and technical dependencies.
- Experience estimating effort, assigning tasks, tracking daily progress, and managing delivery commitments.
- Proven capability in mentoring engineers, developing technical competencies, and supporting career progression.
- Experience conducting technical interviews and contributing to proposal development or presales activities.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to make informed decisions under competing project priorities.

Customer Engagement Requirements :

- Direct customer-facing experience is mandatory, preferably with stakeholders based in the US or Europe.
- Previous experience working onsite with international customers is required.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including qualified email correspondence, technical discussions, and project updates.
- Confidence in explaining technical trade-offs, presenting engineering progress, and managing customer expectations.
- Flexibility to undertake onsite assignments and customer visits according to business requirements.
