Job Title – Agentic AI Engineering Lead (Agent Engineering Practice Lead)

Job Nature – Permanent

Work Location – Hyderabad

Experience – 12+ years software engineering, of which 2+ years building production large language model / agentic applications and 4+ years leading engineers

Purpose of the Role

Own ArcelorMittal's agent engineering practice: reusable patterns for agent decomposition, orchestration, tool use, memory, evaluation, safeguards and operational behaviour; reference implementations on approved Microsoft agent frameworks; agent-specific test suites; and coaching of pod engineers so that agentic solutions are measurable, safe and reusable.

Key Responsibilities

- Define agent decomposition, planning, tool-use, memory, state and orchestration patterns; codify them in the agent engineering standard.




- Select and validate implementation approaches across approved Microsoft agent frameworks (Azure AI Foundry Agent Service, Microsoft Agent Framework / Semantic Kernel, Copilot Studio) and the platform's agent runtime.
- Build and maintain reference implementations and reusable components (tools, connectors, orchestration, guardrails) for common agent behaviours.
- Define agent-specific tests for task success, safety, permissions, latency, cost and failure recovery; integrate them into CI/CD evaluation gates with the AI Platform Owner.
- Review pod implementations, lead code and design reviews, and coach engineers on difficult agent design problems.
- Harvest proven components and lessons from the partner-led pods into the CoE pattern library; retire unsafe or untestable patterns.
- Lead the ArcelorMittal engineering community of practice for agentic AI across Europe and the India Global Capability Centre.

Good to have skills

- Production software engineering in Python and/or C#/.NET with strong testing and CI/CD discipline
- Hands-on building of large language model / agentic applications: Azure AI Foundry (Azure OpenAI), Agent Service, Semantic Kernel / Agent Framework, function calling / tools, retrieval-augmented generation and grounding
- Agent evaluation and safety engineering: evaluation datasets, model-as-judge evaluation, red-teaming, content safety, permission boundaries
- Designing for observability and operations: tracing (OpenTelemetry), telemetry, cost and latency management
- Technical leadership: code review, pattern definition, coaching
- Experience in leading team of AI Engineers, providing guidance and technical decision ability, defining strong engineering practices




- Copilot Studio and Power Platform for low-code agents; Microsoft 365 Copilot extensibility
- Microsoft Fabric / SQL for grounding on governed data
- Container-based runtimes (Azure Container Apps, Azure Kubernetes Service), Azure API Management, Entra ID
- Certifications: AI-102, AZ-204, DP-600

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data, Business or a relevant discipline. Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience is an advantage

Deliverables The successful Agentic AI Engineering Lead (Agent Engineering Practice Lead) combines strong skilled depth with a practical delivery mindset. The individual must be able to establish clear methods, make sound decisions, develop colleagues and progressively assume ownership from the implementation partner. Success requires confidence working across India and Europe and balanced judgement across delivery speed, reuse, security and Responsible AI.

This role helps establish a permanent ArcelorMittal AI capability, embeds repeatable engineering and control practices, and reduces dependency on the implementation partner through structured ownership transfer. Success is demonstrated when:

- Reference patterns are reused across pods; agent behaviour (task success, safety, permissions, latency, cost, failure recovery) is measurable; permission and failure paths are tested before release; duplicated engineering effort declines; ArcelorMittal engineers can build agents independently.
- Agent engineering standard; reference implementations; reusable tools and orchestration components; agent evaluation suite; engineering review evidence; failure and recovery patterns; coaching materials.
