JOB DESCRIPTION: CNC PRESS BRAKE MACHINE

OPERATOR

Company: Kanha Metal Works (KMW)

Employment Type: Full-time / Contractual

Work Location: KMW Workshop / Factory

Experience: 2–5 years preferred

Wage Type: Daily wages

1. Job Purpose

KMW is hiring a skilled CNC Press Brake Machine Operator to set up and operate

CNC-controlled press brake machines for bending metal sheets and plates according to

approved engineering drawings and production specifications. The candidate must

ensure dimensional accuracy, consistent quality, safe machine operation, productive

material usage, and timely production.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Machine Operation and Setup

1. Operate CNC press brake machines to produce components according to

approved drawings, bending sequences, and work instructions.

2. Select and install suitable punches, dies, and tooling based on material type,

thickness, bend radius, and job requirements.

3. Select approved CNC programs and adjust permitted parameters within

authorized limits.

4. Set back gauges, position and align sheets correctly, and perform initial setup

checks and first-piece trials before batch production.

5. Monitor machine performance, identify abnormal operation or tooling issues, and

report faults promptly.

6. Handle and stack completed components carefully to prevent scratches, dents,

deformation, and other damage.

B. Drawing Interpretation and Job Preparation

1. Read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, bending layouts,

dimensions, tolerances, and work instructions.

2. Identify material grade, thickness, bend angles, bend locations, flange

dimensions, and other critical features.

3. Verify material identification, tooling, and CNC program availability before starting

production.

4. Apply basic knowledge of bend allowance, bend deduction, bend radius,

springback, and bending sequence.

5. Clarify drawing discrepancies, missing dimensions, or program errors with the

supervisor or programming team before proceeding.

C. Quality Control and Inspection

1. Inspect the first component after setup and obtain approval where required

before proceeding with batch production.

2. Check bend angles, flange lengths, overall dimensions, squareness, and

specified tolerances using suitable measuring instruments.

3. Monitor production quality and identify defects such as incorrect bend angles,

dimensional deviations, scratches, cracks, deformation, and inconsistent bends.

4.

Segregate non-conforming components, report defects, make authorized

corrections, and repeat inspections as required.

5. Maintain production, inspection, rejection, and machine-stoppage records

according to KMW procedures.

D. Production and Machine Maintenance

1. Complete assigned jobs within production schedules while minimizing setup time,

machine downtime, material wastage, and rework.

2. Coordinate with cutting, fabrication, fitting, welding, and assembly teams to

ensure smooth production flow and component traceability.

3. Report material shortages, tooling requirements, machine breakdowns, and

production bottlenecks.

4. Perform routine cleaning and operator-level maintenance as authorized; maintain

machine logs and report maintenance requirements.

5. Store tooling properly and maintain an organized machine and work area.

E. Safety and Housekeeping

1. Follow KMW safety procedures and machine-specific operating instructions; use

prescribed PPE, including safety footwear and eye protection as appropriate.

2. Keep hands and other body parts clear of punches, dies, pinch points, and

hazardous moving components.

3. Handle large, heavy, or awkward sheets using approved methods and assistance

or handling equipment where required.

4. Check machine guards, safety interlocks, emergency stops, and other protective

devices according to prescribed checklists.

5. Stop operation and report abnormal noises, hydraulic issues, control errors,

tooling damage, or safety-device faults.

6. Follow approved lockout and isolation procedures before maintenance or

accessing hazardous areas. Never bypass guards, interlocks, or safety

procedures.

7. Keep the machine area, tooling racks, worktables, and walkways clean and

organized.

3. Qualifications and Experience

1. ITI in Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Sheet Metal, Mechanical, or a related trade is

preferred. A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical training

is an advantage.

2. Preferably 2–5 years of hands-on CNC press brake operation experience in

metal fabrication or manufacturing.

3. Familiarity with CNC controls, programming interfaces, machine setup, tooling

selection, and authorized parameter adjustments.

4. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, bending layouts, and

tolerances.

5. Practical understanding of sheet metal bending, bend sequence, springback,

tooling, and material behaviour.

6. Experience bending mild steel is preferred; stainless steel and aluminium

experience is an advantage.

7. Ability to use measuring instruments, perform dimensional inspections, and

follow work and safety instructions in a language understood by the candidate.

4. Required Skills and Personal Attributes

1. Practical proficiency in CNC press brake operation and setup.

2. Strong drawing interpretation, measurement, and dimensional accuracy skills.

3. Ability to identify routine bending defects and correct them within authorized

limits.

4. Responsible handling of machine tooling, materials, and finished components.

5. Awareness of machine guarding, pinch points, and safe sheet handling.

6. Discipline, punctuality, accountability, and ability to work independently while

coordinating with the production team.

5. Wage and Employment Terms

The final wage will be determined by KMW based on practical assessment, machine

experience, drawing interpretation, setup capability, accuracy, and job complexity.

Payment will be based on recorded attendance and the agreed wage cycle. Working

hours, overtime, weekly rest, leave, and applicable statutory benefits will be governed

by company policy and applicable Indian labour laws.

6. Selection Process

1. Screening of relevant CNC press brake operating experience.

2. Practical assessment of machine setup, tooling selection, sheet positioning, and

bending, where feasible.

3. Assessment of drawing interpretation, dimensional measurement, and first-piece

inspection.

4. Evaluation of defect identification, basic troubleshooting, and machine safety

awareness.

5. Final selection by the authorized KMW representative.

7. Performance Expectations

The selected candidate must produce components within specified tolerances, maintain

consistent bending quality, minimize material wastage and rework, follow machine

safety procedures, maintain required records, and complete assigned jobs within

production timelines.
